Hacksaw Ridge was horrible. I couldnt even make it all the way through the film without fast-forwarding.

Saw Dunkirk in IMAX at the theater and was literally blown away. I agree that it's not a great film story-wise, but it was visually and audibly amazing at the theater.

Dunkirk was not a good movie. It completely failed in showing the scope of the German attacks on the beach head. The air to air combat was about on par with your local airshow demonstration (smoke generators? Really?) The men in the beached boat sequence was laughably bad both in concept and execution.
But, it's Nolan. So there'll be posters on here telling you how Oscar worthy it was.

This. I thoroughly enjoyed in theater, but i wouldn’t be surprised if someone watches it at home and thinks “meh”

Dunkirk did an awesome job putting you in the time and place, and managed to do it from different perspectives (soldier and rescuer). The IMAX in particular.

Yeah and I think that's what Nolan was going for. He just painted a picture and said, "here ya go." It isn't necessarily bad

That’s because that’s not what the film was trying to do. Dunkirk was not about the battle, it was about a group of men trying to escape from the battle.

Dunkirk actually features some of the most accurate WWII dog fight scenes ever filmed. If you think air battles in the Second World War were similar to those shown in films such as Pearl Harbor or Red Tails then you are sorely mistaken.

Dog fights were often very tedious affairs as pilots struggled to line up their shots. Plus, Spitfires only had about 30 seconds worth of ammunition onboard. So pilots would have to fire their guns in quick bursts.

Yeah, but people also just love showing off their Home Theater system.

I just got the surround sound hooked up and the theater chairs arrived yesterday. My body is ready.

Y’all have talked me out of wasting $5.99 to watch it on VOD. Not about the money, but my attention span has definitely shortened over the years. Thanks for giving me a couple of hours of my life that I’ll never get back.

Upvote. I thought it sucked as well.

ETA: Saw it in the theater and still sucked.

Don’t need dialogue in a film like this. If it bothers you, never watch Mad Max.

-Character building? NOPE

This was a film about showing three stories individual stories that are in an arc together. It’s about the visuals and big picture.

I watched it at home and liked
it just fine.

Took me a minute to understand the timeline with 1 week, 1 day, 1 hour..but after that realization, i thought it had good flow and wasn't drawn out.

I'd like to know if it was really that organized. Thousands of people just lined up on the beach waiting. I'd have been doing what the main characters at the beach were doing, anything to get the frick out of there.

Without the scope of the German assault being shown, the magnitude of danger those soldiers were in doesn’t resonate. It just appeared that if you avoided random single German planes that appeared sporadically you were safe.

The air to air was not realistic at all. If you think pilots doing ACM aren’t grunting and straining, but instead look like they’re in the landing pattern at the local muni airport like in this movie, you’re sadly mistaken. You never once get the feeling these pilots are in an actual dogfight. Also, if you hose down an HE-111 with 8 .30 cal machine guns pieces of the bomber are coming off. In this movie you can practically hear the special effects coordinator say, “Turn smoke generators on...NOW!”

Out of all the crap movies you could waste 6 bucks on this one should be low on the list.

And if your attention span can’t last an hour and 40 minutes then that sucks

So the planes dropping bombs every 20 minutes is “random”? And by accounts of some survivors that were actually there, that’s exactly what it was like

Hacksaw Ridge is not a good film. That's being generous.

The propaganda flyers floating down from the sky did more than enough to show just how much danger they were in.

I'm sure the Luftwaffe at the height of its powers trying to eliminate the British Expeditionary Force would send bombers in by ones and twos.

They may have arrived every 15-20 minutes, but there would have been planes attacking in massed numbers.
