There's a story about it all, I'll have to see if I can find it, but basically, they really screwed up the second movie, and the story, so 3 continues after 1 and 2 is optional, but not canon.

The TV series (with Forever Knight normally following it) were two of the best must-see hours in television history.

Thank the cinema gods it wasn’t Omar Sharif. He had a decent small part in The Thirteenth Warrior, with Antonio Banderas. As I think about it an older Antonio might make a good Ramirez in a remake.

It's kind of ridiculous how many different continuities Highlander has, I'm not sure there's anything else like it.
1. Highlander
2. Highlander, Highlander 2
3. Highlander, Highlander 3
4. Highlander, Highlander Animated Series
5. Highlander, Highlander The Series, Highlander Raven (have to fudge some details of the movie for it to fit obviously.)
Throw Endgame into continuity #5 if you really want to, and frick Highlander The Source.

This is one of those movies that is so near and dear to so many childhoods. Nostalgia will never allow posters to critique too heavily. But you're right on a lot of fronts.

From what I gather
Highlander is first but it wasn't the gathering as they had more
Then the animated show picks up after that
Followed by Highlander the TV show
Highlander the Raven
Then the other Highlander movies in order following Duncan
The 2nd and 3rd Highlander films are stand-alone and not part of the universe because they make no sense with everything else.

Sounds like I need to try the TV series. Not sure that I've ever watched it......
