Easily one of the most unique and original film premises of the last 50 years, and has genuine artistic and visual merits and serves as a perfect time capsule for the 1980s and the chances film execs used to take and the production quality that even smaller films used to have.
The movie looks phenomenal with its use of wide lenses, lush colors, and high quality 80s music video lighting and techniques. The casting, as strange and bizarre as it is, is actually perfect. And the Kaman's original score (not the Queen stuff, which is still great) is seriously, mindblowingly great.
In no way should this film has such top quality music, but, like so many films from this era, but it does.
Highlander Suite
If this movie were made todsy (which, no way in he it would get a green light) it would be an absolute shite show, and everyone knows it.
The film is currently streaming free on Tubi. It's not a movie you should watch 10-15 times a year, but once every few years does nothing but bring a huge smile to your face and immerse you into the film.
And remember...

i loved the highlander mythos as a kid but it really makes no sense after the first movie. that's why the 2nd movie has so many cuts and is incomprehensible. then they basically just ignore everything and kind of soft rebot the mythology in the 3rd with some mario van peebles thrown in
however, if you haven't heard Craig Ferguson's standup on Highlander, i suggest you search for it

This has been the #1 franchise begging for a reboot for 25 years.
The original movie is great but has a ton of flaws
- The Prize sucks
- Not enough swordfighting
- Badly choreographed fights
- Dialogue is fricking awful
Lambert and Connery owned that weird shite and made it seem like the coolest thing ever, but in the right hands, it would be amazing.
Sadly, I doubt we get that. I'm expecting PG-13 Highlander with even fewer swordfights, even worse dialogue, and nothing new or interesting added to clarify and expand the mythology. It'll just be the same scenes in Scotland we've seen in the first movie, the same villain we've seen in the first movie, and a whole lot of bullshite we don't want to see. Queen rolls over the credits, we're supposed to applaud.

Amazing that after the terrible sequel, we got a great TV series out of this thing.

Love Highlander. Love the insanity of it all. Not just the story but a French guy playing the Scot, a Scot playing an Egyptian from Spain and an American playing a Russian. Add to that a great Michael Kamen score and Queen songs.... Who wants to live forever?!
At the Star Wars Rebels Season 2 finale screening, Clancy Brown was sitting right behind me. He said something to one of the presenters and I thought "Holy hell, the Kurgan is gonna take my head!"

Mainly because of Clancy Brown's Kurgan (and the music), but I can't disagree.

There is no master of Freddy Mercury singing "New York, New York", the greatest tragedy in movie soundtrack history.

It won the Academy Award. Best movie ever made.

Sunday nights on WVLA:
10pm Star Trek Next Generaton
11pm Highlander
12am The Outer Limits
That was a solid block of sci-fi entertainment.
