I will often put on some MST3K while trying to go to sleep. No particular episode.

Excellent choice. Something about those classic big budget Hollywood films that are just relaxing. Jeremiah Johnson is another great one.

I like big epics actually.

Last of the Mohicans
Ben Hur
Seven Samurai
The Last Samurai
Braveheart

Seen them all lots of times and enjoy them. But the scores, the scenes, perfect.

Yes there are battles, but I can sleep right through if I need to

Before I got married it was Monster's Inc. Rarely made it past the Harryhausen scene.

Since the advent of 4K TV's I can't fall asleep with anything but an old black & white movie. It took me buying one for my own bedroom to realize what was going on. Every night I stayed in a hotel room before that, I had trouble getting to sleep with the TV on. Had no idea why until I tried to fall asleep with the one in my own bedroom. They're too bright to leave on.

My first job out of college required lots of travel. I left hotel room TV's own to drown out hallway noises. I'd slept that way since the 80's. Can't do it now.

Lord of the Rings with the audio commentary on (any of the 3 films). I love it and find it fascinating but also lulls me into a nice sleep

I have a pc connected to mine. If I turn the tv off, the audio will still play through the computer speakers.

Night of the living dead (original of 1990 remake) or dawn of the dead (original) and the shining would be comfort films for me.

Then you have tv shows like the original twilight zone, mst3k, etc

Those old war/action films didn't amp up the volume on the battle/fight scenes. I can put on Patton and everything from the Jerry Goldsmith theme to the tank battles to the dialogue is within a normal audio range.

Plus I can doze on and off and any scene I half-hear is interesting and reassuring (since I've seen the film a hundred times).

B&W classics. The gray light and that dated sound tech is perfect for it. It puts me in a trance.

And no, this is not a slight at the classics. I love them, but they do have a soothing feel to them based on the light and sound
