Do you feel like there’s more lore to be explored with The Thing

Or should it be left alone
I know the 2011 one was shite, but the original is one of my favorites
Do you think they could explore upon it and do it in another area on earth? Or leave it alone
If, and it’s a big if, Where is another location/period they could do it? And who would be your director?
I think IF they were to dive back in and do another Thing, they should go way back to like the 17-1800s with Inuits in the Arctic. Have it take over a polar bear or a caribou before invading an Inuit village. No flamethrowers, just bow and arrows and shite
What yall think?

So you think they should explore how aliens that crashed in the Antarctic take over polar bears and Inuits? Hmm.

I like things being mysterious, that's part of the magic of stories.

There was an OG xbox game based off The Thing back in like 02 or something. It was fantastic, and explored the world a little bit more without feeling overdone.

I didn't see the second one and it's been years since I saw the first.
But if I recall, they found a large space ship.
Well maybe The Thing wasn’t the pilot of the spaceship, or part of the crew, but instead something they were carrying. Maybe even a criminal the space aliens were bringing to prison or a secure location or whatever.
I like your idea. Have a Saturday morning upvote.

There is some mad disrespect for the actual “original” movie here, and I will not stand for it.
Yes, the remake in 1982 is great, but the actual OG from 1951 is fricking awesome:

It’s better left alone. The story has been
Told on screen enough times by now…

Not at all.
It is finished.

Lots more lore to be explored with The Thing...

Let it go... I couldn't stomach a "Thing" movie that's all CGI slop.

Is there? Yes.
Should it be explored? I assumed the story could have been wrapped up neatly or continue. That’s what made it so interesting.
Unless there’s a hell of a follow up, let it sit. Not all stories need a sequel.

I just came across my copy of that the other day. You really never could trust your friends. I remember having to use them for help as much as I could but having to be ready to kill them

That game is actually canon too. McCready survived and gets experimented on by the government.

There was an interesting short story call The Things by Peter Watts that told the Carpenter film from the thing's pov.
quote:
The alien thinks of itself as an "explorer, an ambassador, a missionary" of the biomass it consists of, the primary instinct of which is to "commune", i.e. absorb and matriculate on a cellular level with other biologies. Confused, damaged, and unfamiliar with earthly fauna, the alien eventually learns the horrifying secret of man: Humans are individuals, "thinking cancers" who do not want to be assimilated and therefore seek to repel and even destroy it, unlike all other lifeforms it has encountered across the universe. The alien realizes that humans will not ever be able to understand its offerings and concludes that violent integration is the only way to save humanity from its isolation as individuals

Nice to see it on TV on Saturday.
Hadn't seen it since it was released in 1982.
I remember back then at the end of the film why can you see MacReady's breath but not Childs' when they speak?

I just watched it for the first time last night because of this thread. Good movie, hated the dogs dying.
I wouldn't mind if a new director could update it for today but still use a mix of practical effects and cgi

you dont wanna know
but to respond to the OP - here’s an alternate take on the premise from the early 70s starring Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee - has some cheesy moments, but is pretty solid overall, and features a fantastic performance from Telly Savalas as a cossack:

Well Antarctica is literally the only place humans woukd have a fighting chance of a species that advanced to not rapidly devour and take over humanity. Unless you make setting in outer space.
