This is almost always the correct answer with great films. It's an awesome movie, just let the story be.

i watched it this weekend and was thinking how bad any sort of remake would be today.
Let it rest.
Speaking of, it's still crazy that was absolutely hated at the time and was a good 15 years before people appreciated it for the subtle (at times) brilliance of it.
I remember that Carpenter was depressed that it was so hated because of ET coming out. I could never see ET again and I watch The Thing at least once a year.

I was a sophomore in high school in 82. My friend and I snuck in to Cinema 8 (it wasn't 11 yet) in Bon Marche Mall one Saturday and watched The Thing, and then Blade Runner. It was the most glorious back to back movie viewing until I was able to watch all three Lord of the Rings extended cuts back to back at home on a weekend.
Hell No I don't want anyone from today's Hollywood to come anywhere near this movie. The chances of them woking it up and ruining are damn near a certainty.

I never knew this was a movie, so I had to read about it. This part of the plot description just seems odd
quote:
The creature appears. Carrington pleads with it, but is knocked violently aside, and the creature is electrocuted. On Hendry's order, it is reduced to a pile of ash.
When the weather clears, Hendry and Nicholson are careening toward marriage, and Scotty is finally able to radio his story of a lifetime to a roomful of reporters in Anchorage.
