Gizmodo’s Germain Lussier: “I loved Disclosure Day. A dense roller coaster ride blending chase film, love story, & mystery, all wrapped in sci-fi wonder. I guess we always knew the big reveal but laying the plot out there like that is a pretty bold strategy. Now that we know there are aliens, we are all more empathetic. Pass.

The name alone tells you it's about aliens

The most natural theme to a story about aliens is an exploration on what makes us human. And there’s nothing more human than love.

I’d be very surprised if the love story feels “shoehorned” in.

it's a bold strategy alright. this has got close encounters written all over it. to be fair close encounters did decent box office in it's christmas of 77 release but the anticipation was it was another star wars (summer of 77) and it wasn't. richard dryfuss character was just an A-hole dead beat dad.

I was really hoping the third act would devolve into horror. I am not going to watch the final trailer but by the sounds of it, I'm going to be disappointed.

Jahns liked it, and said Emily Blount steals every scene she is in

Hearing reviews are mixed to positive

Yeah, it’s got an 82% on RT but the main reviewers on YouTube I watch landed somewhere between “meh” to “not good at all.”

The marketing hasn’t done much for me, none of the trailers or TV spots give off a must-see feeling.

Blunt gives an Oscar worthy performance. She is the heart of the movie.

Its definitely not going to be what everyone expects. Its disjointed at places and doesnt totally make sense at times, but Spielberg nails the third act. Just a beautiful finale.

Like story wise? Or tonally?

Just wondering if that’s a good thing or a bad thing.

The trailer in this post turned me off from seeing it

Little of both. If you looking for a War of the Worlds type of movie, you'll be disappointed.

I would say it feels like a mashup of Close Encounters, a good M Night film, and Super 8.

Yeah this was very underwhelming

I stayed away from all trailers and I wanted to go in as blind as possible

And don’t know how many Spielberg movies I’ll get to see in theaters

The climax was pretty good and suspenseful but the rest was very meh

Don’t know if I’ll rewatch it ever

And also: had maybe the most inconsiderate theatre experience, a fairly younger couple deciddd to bring a 1 year old who was clearly fighting sleep time for a 7pm showing and the baby cried and whimpered the entire 2:25 run time. The more suspenseful and quiet moments were drowned out by a screaming child.

Who brings a baby to the movies anyway? On opening night? Just a massive frick you to everyone else trying to enjoy the movie .

Saw the movie tonight.

Emily Blunt plays the part extremely well. Trying not to spoil it; but, the character she gets is going through and has experienced some shite. It’s a chaotic role and she nailed it. She’s worthy of the praise she’s getting.

I think the film’s intent is to be thought provoking; even if in a perceived hypothetical situation. There’s an element of an action flick; an interwoven subcontext of a love story and its tempered with extraterrestrials/mystery/intrigue and some ethical considerations around the “what ifs”…

Is it going to go down as Spielberg’s career highlight? Absolutely not. Is it worth seeing? Sure. You can do much worse.
