Absolutely loved this movie. Sat there and listed to the score during the credits just trying to process it.
I'd really love to have a spoiler filled discussion of my problems with the ending. Someone here will have to tell me when that is ok.

I loved the first 80% of the movie but I thought it ran out of gas at the end. I appreciated that it wasn't overrun with terrible CGI. Should have been made 20 years ago as I believe most people these days would not even believe released footage and think it was AI, not real. Thus continuing the cycle.

richard dryfuss character was just an A-hole dead beat dad.

What a stupid comment.

The character played by Richard Dreyfus was as far from a "deadbeat dad" as could be. He was a loving, caring dad and husband who had a good job with the power company, and was dedicated enough to go out to work in the middle of the night when the aliens were screwing up the power grid.

The alien encounter messed him up mentally, like all the others with recent encounters, with imagery of Devil's Tower that heavily imprinted in their brains.

His craziness caused by the aliens led his wife to take the kids and leave HIM, not the other way around.

I kinda liked the first 80% of the movie, but I thought that the end was ridiculous.

And, then, after some reflection, nothing in the movie ended up making any sense at all.

Edit: I give it 2.5 out of 5 stars. It's not a terrible way to spend two hours of your time.
