You have a very interesting take on that. Just about every other review I've heard has preferred 1 and 4 over 3 and 5.

Seems like they were going to make a subplot out of Jonah in Nebraska, but dropped it as soon as they started it.

The whole season was one long muddled mess of things that didn't quite work and plots that didn't develop in ways that made sense

I'm guessing there are too many cooks in the kitchen at this point in the Dexter franchise, because IMO a single writer or just 2-3 people who were serious about the product wouldn't produce such a fractured and hard to watch product

Dexter has been getting more and more wild/lazy with his killings and it directly coincides with the departure of Harry. The last few episodes have really shown Dexter running wild and not caring about being smart with his killings and at the same time we've been seeing less and less Harry. Basically Dexter has come to terms with him representing darkness and thus the departure of Harry.

I also HATE HATE HATE to pick apart at a tv show with things like "theres no way that would happen IRL" because the idea of comparing tv shows to IRL is ridiculous but the writers really did get lazy this season. There was just too many things that were not plausible.

I was waiting to see Jersey's take on this. I know he's been outspoken about the bad writing this season. Maybe he gave up before the finale.

I love dexter, but one of the biggest problems with the show is that Miami has way too many creepy serial killers. I couldn't name 6 real life serial killers that were this creepy, but somehow they have fit what 5 or 6 in this show in lets say a 7 year span.

Need to get back to the internal struggle with himself (like some of this season did with bro sam) rather than battling the next nut job.

There really is only enough room for 1 serial killer and that's dexter.

he needs to get back to killing joe blows that rape people and get away with it and such.

Agree, although I don't mind if the serial killer is badass like Lithgow was. The idea and the tableaus for this season were intriguing, but Hanks as the bad guy? Meeeeeehhhhh.

It really seems like they are trying to come up with a "Joker" for him every season, and that's just not possible. I agree that the focus needs to be more on his internal suffering. Now with Deb in the mix, I think the focus will shift back to him and how that relationship functions.

Of course, they could just explain that away too with Deb realizing there's no way she could possibly have those types of feelings for another serial killer. Especially after she fell for his biological brother who was already a serial killer. Heck, they're divorced in real life now, so Deb getting the knife somehow on the show before she outs him (not by Dexter) is a real possibility.

I agree...I am hooked on the show, and the original concept, and even the father and son dimension, but I feel like we've treaded into 1966 Batman territory with the villians they are making up now.

I am usually of that school of thought. I try and ignore IRL to show comparisons, but the writers made it impossible to do that this season - especially this last episode. I'll suspend my belief only so much.

LOL. When Dexter escaped the burning lake of fire, I thought the only thing missing was the Aquaman suit, and that Houdini couldn't have escaped any quicker.
