Danielle Fishel Thinks ‘Boy Meets World’ Should Not Have Had Cory and Topanga Get Married

In the latest episode of Boy Meets World rewatch podcast Pod Meets World, select fans were invited to ask the cast their burning questions about the sitcom. One fan wanted to know the one thing about the show the hosts and former stars Fishel, Rider Strong and Will Friedle would change.
“I don’t think I would have Cory (Savage) and Topanga (Fishel) get married,” admitted Fishel. “I think I might have her still do the proposal and maybe he still says yes, [and] we go through the whole planning. Then, we end up deciding it’s maybe not the right choice for us now.”
Fishel clarified that she would still want to have the couple be together. “They don’t need to be broken up,” she said. “Maybe we just save the marriage aspect for the end of the show and not spend the last full year of the show married.”
Friedle called his former co-star’s opinion a “hot take.” Rider agreed, noting it was a “hot take to have now when we haven’t gotten to that [part of the show].” The actress explained her choice, saying that after her character was married to Cory, the writers “had to come up with new [situations] upping the stakes for us.”
“I remember not loving those stakes,” she recalled. “It felt like we could have gotten more mileage out of them being together but not yet married.”

I wonder if she’s always felt this way or if it’s been more recent since Ben Savage cut them out of his life

Well she also couldn't tell Lance Bass was gay when they were dating.

No, he isn't.
He is from my hometown and he's a year older than me. We went to the same church and his mother was my 6th grade math teacher.
EVERYONE knew he was gay growing up.

I think if memory serves they got married with like 8 episodes left in the series so it didn’t really matter. In fact it helped serve new storylines as they winded it down so it was actually a good thing they did

I was already out of college once that show picked up steam, but I seem to recall watching it frequently on Friday nights before I would go out on the town. I don't remember them getting married though, I guess I had bailed by that point. I do remember a few episodes with Linda Cardelinni though-always thought that girl was cute.

Why’d he do that?

Running theory is that since he's gone full mode politics, he's distancing himself from that aspect of his life. I don't think he should have to ghost his friends, so maybe there's more there. He's a Democrat so it's not like he has to toe the anti-Hollywood line.
He also got married in 2023 so maybe the wife isn't about the old crew

This thread takes me back. Can’t believe how much I remember from that show. I even remember how the proposal went down at their high school graduation she proposed to Cory as the rest of the class went to throw their hats in the air and caught off guard they stayed sitting as it faded into credits. Amy and Alan gave him shite telling him they were too young.
Remember that from my middle school days and don’t think I’ve ever watched a rerun since 8th grade
