Comic Book/Superhero Movie Fatigue

I haven't seen nor will I see any of these movies for a very long time. It's a glut in the movie industry produced by laziness. 14 more are coming before the end of 2019.

I'm not going to watch them either... but... as long as they are making money (and they are making a LOT of money) then Hollywood is going to keep pumping them out.

And I was just about to ask you if you are enjoying these comic movies.

I wish there was a new one every week

I like em. I'll keep watching them. They don't cut into my viewings of critically acclaimed masterpieces. I'm sorry you're hurting, buddy. My condolences.

If you think what's been done in the MCU has been lazy, then you aren't very smart.

yeah there are some throwaway movies in the MCU for sure (both IM sequels, Dr Strange, Ant Man, Black Panther, Spiderman Homecoming), but Infinity War was amazing and all the truly necessary pieces for that movie are epic

These responses are so clever. It's a fricking discussion board. I was bringing up a topic for discussion while interjecting my own opinion about said topic. Happens all over tigerdroppings. Sorry that you can't recognize that.
As for ell's comment, I'm not saying those movies themselves are a result of laziness. I'm saying that Hollywood not developing ideas for more movies outside of that genre, along with being dependent on these movies just because they're a proven dollar is lazy. And before anyone says anything, yes, I understand profit motivation.
If you're a person who never gets tired of things in life, then I am envious of you.

these movies allow the margins that produce original, "big" movies like inception...and jupiter ascending

Sooner or later, we're going to get a Marvel film nominated for 'Best Picture'.

I get what you're saying, but I'm pretty sure that Inception could still be produced without another iteration of "Ratboy".

There's plenty of great ideas... it's just that audiences don't watch them. I mean, this year we've already had ANNIHILATION, A QUIET PLACE, THE DEATH OF STALIN, READY PLAYER ONE, BLOCKERS, ISLE OF DOGS, HEREDITARY, LOVE SIMON, and so on. I'm not a huge fan of everything I just listed, but this idea that comic book movies and sequels are preventing good films from coming out is absurd. There's tons of great stuff out there that easily coexists.
The problem isn't Hollywood development, it's audiences. John Q Public isn't going to see original ideas or even movies without explosions aimed at adults. Why should they make things that will lose money? Now, to their credit, there are smaller studios like A24 perfectly willing to put out these original ideas, and its up to you to go see them.
I was able to see both A QUIET PLACE and INFINITY WAR. They didn't stop me at the gate to deny me entry. THE DEATH OF STALIN is still the best movie I've seen this year (though I go back and forth with ANNIHILATION). It's great. It also made just $7 million. ANNIHILATION made $32 million. Combined, they made about the same in their entire runs as AVENGERS made in the last two days. And those were weekdays.

No we won't. They're just popcorn flicks. I'm sure even Feige would say he's not shooting for 'best picture' type films.

quote:I agree with all of those except Dr. Strange. That was his intro and he's important going forward (already is) and it brought magic into the MCU world.

I'm pretty sick of them, but I am still going to see the best ones, though I'll likely wait until they come out on video. Thor: Ragnorok was straight up amazing.
