Dark Knight at #3 is more credible than too cool for school hipsters not including Shawshank in their Top 50 movies of the 90's (I think someone did a Top 100 and excluded it -total HEY LOOK AT ME bullshite)

I like Nolan, but the placement of these movies on a top 250 list is a great reminder that IMDb voters are actual children.

Give me a camera and $270M
I promise I could get one in the 250. I'd give people what the people want.
I'd even use dark filters..

I get the Nolan love on IMDB - it is what it is
Nolan has plenty of misses but outside of Villenueve, Anderson, Gerwig, and a few indy film makers, there's not a lot of people i get excited about when they're making a film.
i'm happy to turn my brain off and watch an MCU movie, Mario Bros., Jungle Cruise, Jumanji, John Wick etc. I'm not a harsh critic, but i can appreciate a director that wants to do something more than easy.

There's some recency bias in that list (people using the internet are inherently younger,) but a solid list of films. I could make some arguments for ones that aren't High Art, but masterfully directed and shot movies (Fury Road, Crazy Stupid Love, About Time, Blade Runner, Prisoners, Hostiles, Wind River, etc. none perfect, but still amazing.)
my only glaring fault with that is that It's a Wonderful Life is obviously the greatest movie of all time.

Just odd that the classic film which spawned the title of the other film, in ranked lower.
Honestly, there is some real crap is that list. Three no way in hell that “15. Spider-Man: Across the Spiderverse (2023) “ is accurate.

Prisoners was one of the films I first heard of through the IMDB 250, fwiw.
I think IMDB and oddly enough, Google Ratings are more useful than Rotten Tomatoes, where almost everything gets a high rating.
IMDB is useful as long as you treat the low end of their scale similar to grades, where most films below a 6.5 are underwhelming.

So much for giving a frick about the “IMBD top 250”, which I didn’t anyways

My son and I do the letterbox app and he sometimes loses his mind when I rate something at a 3.5 or 4 when I really like it.
He saw I rated Blade Runner 2049 at a 4* and said i was insane. I love that movie and think it’s amazing but putting in scale of SciFi, complete story, acting, etc. it’s great but it’s not 5*.
I think Crazy Stupid Love is the greatest RomCom in the last 20 years but it’s still a 3.5/5 at best in terms of overall ratings. He thinks that was a 5*.
5* is for a transcendent film like Jurassic Park, Jaws, IAWL, Casa Blanca, Raiders of the Lost Arc, 2001, etc.
I would definitely rank both them very high in my top 250 but they’re not 5*s

The Letterbox users have their own biases to keep an eye on (they love 3 hour Eastern European films that show the plight of humanity
with minimalist dialog) but I discovered some movies there as well during the spring of 2020.
Sing Street, Blindspotting, and Short Term 12 were all films I had never heard of and at the bare minimum, I liked. I would say Sing Street was very enjoyable and Short Term 12 is one of the best movies of the past two decades.

The more I watch the dark Knight the more I don't care for it. It's a great movie and then after joker gets captured it just kind of goes downhill. The ending focused way too much on being symbolic rather than giving the characters satisfying or logical conclusions.
Batman begins was a more complete movie and I think it's the most rewatchable. Shoot me but I think it has aged the best.
Dark Knight rises is awful and stupid.

I’d be curious how many John Ford has on this list.
I'm guessing all the Ford fanboys are dead and can't vote, so we invariably get 20 years of ballot stuffers that were in the prime IMDB user age for all of Nolan's career. Its clear Nolan is Gen Y's favorite director.

I’m not saying you’re wrong but it’s probably top 5 DC movies and better than a lot of MCU.

I've enjoyed all of Nolan's films outside of Tenet and The Dark Knight Rises.
Going see Oppenheimer on Saturday

Oppenheimer put him over the top with eight, breaking a three-way tie he had with Martin Scorsese and Stanley Kubrick:
Memento, Interstellar, maybe The Prestige, but comparisons to Scorsese? Kubrick? Just on sheer numbers and and an intelligent use of CGI. (Not an inconsequential talent, I admit. He is savvy in its use and limitations.)
David Lean. John Ford. John Huston. Alfred Hitchcock. William Wyler. All achieved greatness in storytelling in film without having access to today’s levels of sophisticated special effects.
My opinion only. Perhaps I’m just not in touch with Nolan’s greatness.

I rate every movie I watch on IMDB, mainly just because I forget if I've watched something before, so I'll go back and check to see if I've rated it. My style of rating is different. I rate by the genre. So for me Anchorman is a 10/10 comedy, but I'm not saying it's better than The Prestige which I gave a 9/10. Also, movies from my childhood get a bump. Obviously, I know the original TMNT is not 10/10 quality, but for me it is.
