Pedro Pascal actually makes a lot of sense for this role
I like Crowe in this. I don't think they can capture anything close to the original magic, but whatever. Cavill is our based nerd hero, so I like it when he gets work.

Russell Crowe could do his weird new accent (That he's used for Greek, Italian, and Russian) and it would make more sense than Connery
I mean Maximus WAS a Spaniard in Gladiator
Although wasn’t Ramirez actually Egyptian or Persian or something?

Ramirez was Egyptian

I could see Antonio Banderas being an excellent Ramirez.
As much as I love Connery the Spaniard (?) with the thick Scottish accent was a bit off putting

frick it. Just make him Maximus and adapt that scrapped Gladiator 2 script that had Maximus as an immortal warrior that lived to present day. Looking back, they should have gone with that instead of what we actually got for the Gladiator sequel.

The camera work in the original was phenomenal. Some outstanding tracking shots. Great work going between timelines between scenes.
Music/Score was outstanding between Kamen and Queen.
A true classic.
A lot of things came together to make it great.
Good luck with that.

Who's gonna play The Fabulous Freebirds?

I feel his take on Ramirez would be interesting..
Is this a reboot or re-make...are they even using the same main characters?

Queen, fronted by Adam Lambert, also returning to play the score?

Last time I read it was Ludwig Göransson. He did the scores for Oppenheimer, Sinners, Mandalorian, and Black Panthers. A solid choice.

I know Lambert is popular but his singing style is a touch too theater for me. I've tried to like his run with Queen but he just falls flat. Marc Martel is much better.

Just assuming it's a remake since things usually are..
If not, then I'll watch anyways as well

Javier Bardem would've made more sense
Yes
After seeing him in F1 I can see it.
If it weren't for him playing such an unforgettable villain in NCFOM Bardem had the looks and charisma to be a lead actor.
Maybe he would have been allowed to do more good roles over time like Benicio del Toro did with Sicario.

Bautista as the Kurgen? I mean, no one was going to follow Clancy Brown, but that's a weak, weak, weak choice.

quote:I don't know, seems like a blooper right up the middle. Going for a similar vibe to Clancy Brown. They could have tried something different, but I can't think of another actor similar to Clancy. Bautista has done serious and menacing pretty well in Dune and Blade Runner 2049, he's just a little overexposed recently with too much straight-to-video type schlock.

I guess... but it's just the angry wrestler variety. He's not a good actor at all.
Clancy brought charm, humor and presence to that part. Really, he stole that movie. It wouldn't have become what it did without him. But you're right, you can't replace Clancy Brown. I do, however, think they can do better than Bautista. The only thing he's done well to me was playing a ditzy meatball in Guardians... and that used his bad acting as a plus.
