Movie critics make me want to spite them and watch this even though I have no desire. They may be worse than baseball writers when it comes to the most smug pencil necked insufferable twats out there.

Wow. Marvel needs a hard reset. Thought maybe they were trending upward after DP and Wolverine but I guess not.

Crazy to me that avengers doomsday hasn’t even started filming and it’s gonna be out next May.

They can’t figure out what to do with kang.

And then who’s gonna be this iteration of the avengers anyway with the old guard not in it ? Shang chi? Thunderbolts ? Antman?

Seems like there’s no real plan and just cobbling together people for a story

The infinity saga felt like it had stakes and a long arching plan

You know that a black columnist for the LA Times, speaking about Barack Obama, is who injected that term into the modern discourse, right? Feel free to not like it all you wish, but at least know the origins of what it is you dislike.

*Los Angeles Times columnist who referred to Barack Obama as the "Magic Negro" was David Ehrenstein. His article titled "Obama the 'Magic Negro'" was published on March 19, 2007.

I would love to be proven wrong but I think that movie will be a disaster. Infinity war had a decade of build up. They haven't built up to Doomsday at all.

Loki didn't have a suit of armor like Iron Man or a shield like Cap's. He wore gauntlets and had plates on his body, but not anything like a full suit.

And he had an exploding arrow , basically a hand grenade, blow up IN his hand and NEXT to his face. Still survived.

I'm guessing it isn't Doomsday that needs build up but more Secret Wars which hopefully they do a good enough job of in Doomsday.

As long as Peter Parker is leading the Avengers, I don't care what happens.

They needed to take a break and regroup. But the old boss demanded more and more content for Disney plus, which hasn't worked out for them. There's no cohesiveness

I'm just done with Hulk like villains and villains that essentially possess the same powers as some of the heros.

Pardon me, I'm having a little amnesia.

He was some guy that helped spiderman at the Bugle but I'm once again forgetting what he did there and quite frankly everything else about him.

I meant as long as his friend* Spider-Man leads the Avengers I don't care.

I guess that's that.

Appears Cap really doesn't represent America. America wins.

I trust the ComicBook.com review more than most critics when it comes to this kinda stuff.

quote:

This is the first film in the series that has left Chris Evans’ Steve Rogers on the sidelines with Anthony Mackie taking the reins as the shield-slinger and luckily, there aren’t many complaints when it comes to Mackie shouldering the mantle. The movie doesn’t pull any punches when it comes to both the strengths and weaknesses that Sam Wilson has compared to the man who started it all, and this works well in the storytelling. Mackie himself is charmingly affable and knows how to get serious when the situation demands it. Many might have wondered if Mackie would be able to live up to the legacy left by Evans, yours truly included, and we’re happy to report he makes for quite an excellent Cap here. You truly get to witness the journey of Sam coming into his role as the new Captain America and it makes you want to see more of him in the future (luckily, Avengers: Doomsday is a little over one year away).

One of the biggest surprises of Captain America: Brave New World was how it lived so well in the shadow of Captain America: The Winter Soldier. There are a few funny moments but, for the most part, Brave New World is a film that takes itself quite seriously and truly dives into its more mature overtones throughout. Gone are aspects of the multiverse and wise-cracking variants muddying up the screen and instead, Brave New World takes a much more grounded approach to the film’s benefit.

Captain America: Brave New World has its flaws but it’s a movie that works quite well as a return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe and what said universe can still achieve when it really puts its mind to it. This sequel might not stand toe to toe with Captain America: Winter Soldier, but it certainly follows in its footsteps, much to the benefit of moviegoers.

they gave it a 3.5/5

It not only turns its hero into a Magical Negro. In an effort to soothe white America’s anger and hurt, it also asks its hero to grin and figuratively tap dance off screen.

But rather than have a single thing to say about our politics or what it would mean to empower a Black man in a role previously held by a white guy or anything about the world today, Brave New World takes the coward’s view from nowhere.

This is categorically false. This term was introduced into mainstream film discussion by Spike Lee in 2000ish. The term had been around longer in longform film theory/criticism. Using it to describe how the then presidential hopeful coups appeal to white voters is not injecting "into the modern discourse."

Also, your comment reads as some kind of "Gotcha," which makes no sense. As in, your idea of a "liberal" criticized a "liberal" politician? Intolerance for criticizing politicians, regardless of affiliation, feels like a pretty recent phenomenon.

As for captain america, most of the reviews on metacritic fall into range of generally, if not enthusiastically positive to meh negative, with only a couple outlets really going at it. If brave new world is a 6/10 for me, that would make it very similar to around 70% of the MCU's output.

Honestly, Julius Onah, the director, had no business getting this flick. DEI hire of a b-movie director. If Marvel feels the need to check boxes, they could find better quality.
