It's the best will Smith has been in a long time, Joel did really well to bring us back to older times with will.

Shadowrun minus the cyberpunk plus more traditional roots of the races.

I thought it was a good story but the execution was a little off. Nick was supposed to be the straight man on a bunch of jokes and none of them landed. I think the soundtrack was lacking too because I found it boring despite liking the story.

I saw the movie yesterday after not hearing anything about it. It was very entertaining. It won't be winning any awards, but it's good enough that I'm surprised it didn't go to theaters.

I was reluctant at first, but I think it's time to admit that Netflix puts out good products.

I laugh every time a Fox News viewer calls CNN fake news. Hey here’s an idea. Instead of calling CNN fake news just out yourself as an idiot trump voter

Not bad, too much swearing though.

Just because you can, doesn't mean you should.

Just finished it. I liked it. I can see why some critics weren’t to fond of it but it was a solid movie and I’m excited that there will be a sequel. Hopefully they’ll answer more questions about the world in general

Just finished it and i loved it! I haven't listened to these paid off critics in a while. I make my own judgements on movies. Its pretty obvious major hollywood has it out against netflix because it aint the norm.

the amount of over the top shite this movie got was surprising.

i don't know if the critics are shitting on Netflix movies in a way to assist bigger movie studios or what.

Indeed.

I was pretty impressed by it to be honest. It was a little far out there but they did a good job of presenting the world. It's not a movie I would recommend simply because it is the cup of tea of a pretty narrow group of people, not because it is bad.

And then after watching it I read some reviews.

What. The. frick?!

Did the director frick someone's mother? Because when bad movies come out in Hollywood, and they aren't from major existing franchises, they get moderate scorn but mostly ignored.

This...this seems personal. On TOP of being well out of line of what was presented.

My two favorite lines was calling it the worst film of 2017 (fricking really?) and "a film so bad I am convinced the Republicans will take ownership of it and pass it into law."

Yeah, it was kind of left field to have that political angle.

(Pun intended)

I apparently truncated the actual quote.

The actual one has at the end “... over Christmas break.”

Someone is definitely melting over the tax cuts.

I think that is some damn good proof that critics are either paid or heavily influenced by studios.

they're also hive minded individuals

Gigli was not close to being as bad as it got labeled (it sucked, but not THAT bad), but who wants to be the guy defending Gigli?

also i would not be shocked to learn that there is a form of JournoList for movie reviews (among other areas of writing)

You knew this was coming, Chance the rapper thinks it's racist...

quote:

You also might have had the same musings Chance the Rapper did, some of which he tweeted Tuesday evening to discuss with his fellow viewers. Musings like, “Wondering how you guys are feeling about the lynched ork in #Brightmovie.” Says Chance about the film, “I found the way they tried to illustrate americas racism through the mythical creatures to be a little shallow.” In another tweet Chance expounds on the idea, explaining, “I always feel a lil cheated when I see allegorical racism in movies cause that racism usually stems from human emotion or tolerance but not by law or systems the way it is in real life.”

I was just thinking to myself the other day, "Self, what does Chance the Rapper think of the movie Bright and systematic racism?"

Now I know.

I feel so much better.

He saying innate human tribalism is a cop out cause of racism and he'd like to see more films taking on racism rooted in our institutions.

I was wondering this the entire time I was watching. I almost missed a few scenes because I was so deep in thought, wondering.
