I was hoping to see an orcish stripper, but it didn't happen.

It’s definitely a better movie than critics say but it’s still not very good.

I liked the concept a lot better than the execution. Some parts of it were downright predictable and cheesy. I knew what was going to happen for most of it.

The beginning and setup is better than the last 30-40 minutes.

but I still kind of liked it.

Because of this thread and a few other recommendations, I'm probably gonna watch it tonight. Interesting point about movie critics being the new "fake news", especially when you consider that The Last Jedi, a Disney movie, is being praised universally by critics but crapped on by audiences.

I think the critics really hated this movie because it broke narrative. It had racist Asian and Black people in this movie (against Orcs).

Just watched this.

I thought it was pretty entertaining. I thought the premise was pretty cool. It would be a world worth exploring if they decide to make more.

Best Will Smith movie I’ve seen since I Robot

About to give it a shot. What happened to Will Smith to wear he’s the lead role in Netflix films now? Damn

This is a $100 million+ budget film.

I would view it as any other film.

It had close to a 100 million dollar budget.

Netflix is a major studio now. They are throwing 100 million dollars at Scorsese for his next film.

Yeah, this movie sucked.

Seriously, wtf. They couldn't spare two mintues of backstory before Willdog is killing a lame cgi Fairy on his lawn with a broom?

I wouldn't have touched this shite with a 10ft clown pole if not for being with family that wanted to watch it this Christmas.

They could've edited 30mins out and it still would've sucked. Check out The Last Witch Hunter if you want to see a better, suckier version of what Netflix might have been flailing for.

Honestly the Sandler movies on Netflix weren't terrible and better than his last few outings in the big theater. Still not as good as his earliest stuff but I didn't regret watching them and they were fun.

If you listen the critics though Grown ups 2 and Jack and Jill were masterpieces compared to them. Agenda against Netflix is getting obvious.

I'm sure if they would have people would have complained about their being too much backstory, just get to the action already. People are going to hate no matter what.

Watched it last night, and thought it was entertaining. Sure, no one will confuse it for a film with multiple awards, but all I was hoping for was a good popcorn flick, and I got one. Often, if it's a negative but still-quality review, at least they'll acknowledge that much, but man, they're really firing both barrels at this movie. It comes down to one of two things: either the critics don't have the balls to step up and admit that a Netflix film can be worthy enough for enjoyment, or they're shilling for the studios and/or theater chains...

i just read a few articles/reviews of the reviews and i think one thing that soured critics is that it is a story that deals with prejudice but doesn't go ALL the way. it appears telling a story with discrimination that doesn't go 100% SJW is a worse sin than ignoring being woke entirely

that + the anti-Netflix bias seem to tell the tale

i'm going to watch this movie at some point and give my thoughts. from what the board has said i'll probably agree it's just mediocre popcorn fodder, but probably good/decent for that

i recently finally saw the Kingsman and was shocked it only had 74% on RT. looking at review tags like this makes me laugh

quote:

A would-be spy movie remix that revels in gratuitous violence and general ugliness without ever stopping to take stock of what it all means.

quote:

Nothing in this movie means anything.

quote:

If ever there was a semi-entertaining movie that sabotages itself with tastelessness and misogyny, this is it.

quote:

An unironic celebration of Moore-era Bond films means accepting their creepy white-men-as-conquerors undertone.

quote:

A lusting addiction to cartoonish carnage drags Kingsman: The Secret Service down. And by the end, the movie's out-sexismed Roger Moore-era 007 at its smarmiest and smuggest. Lesson learned--cock-of-the-walk dickishness knows no class bounds.

quote:

I don't use the word "reprehensible" a lot, but that's what this movie becomes after a promising start.

the other theme is "too violent" and i won't quote 10 review snippets but it's all ridiculous bullshite

ignoring how the over the top ultraviolence was part of its meta strategy re: spy films, and ignoring the fact that it's ultraviolence was really fun, what kind of shite did you expect from this movie?

It's pretty clear critics are just as much fake news as CNN.

I have never held movie critics as some gold standard because it's the easiest "job" in the world. It's clear now they are paid shills

I wasn't turned off by the critics, I was turned off by the horrifically bad trailer and awful premise

I might still give it a go since everyone else liked it

I really enjoyed it. Didn't go into it with many high expectations, so maybe that played a part. Or maybe hot a-- elf chicks are just my thing now?

Definitely liked the movie though. With movies like that and the beloved Netflix series', I don't think any Netflix customer could possibly b---- about a $2 price increase.
