The original Heaven Can Wait gal (Gene Tierney) was a dime:

I consider this to be the best film ever made about a pro (team sports) athlete (it's about rugby):
Easy Living (1949) is a little remembered film based on a story by Irwin Shaw. It deals with a star QB who is afraid of getting too old to play. It often has a noirish vibe that is unusual. There is one great scene, where a lovable old lug of a lineman is cut. He wants to take his jersey and put it over the bar where he works, but the equipment manager won't give it to him.

Paper Lion was an interesting movie in that it was based on a true story. And, like the true story it took place during the Detroit Lions preseason with the real players, the most memorable of which was Alex Karras.

AGS sucks. Bad. I can never get over all the hype I continuously hear about Pacino's "inches" speech. It was awful and completely uninspiring.

Friday Night Lights, Varsity Blues and Waterboy deserve a mentioning. FNL with the greatest halftime speech ever.
I'd say its a toss up between Brians Song and FNL for me.
Also, haters gonna hate, but Remember the Titans is a fun movie.

Peak overacting Pacino ruined it from the jump.

It's a great book, and an interesting movie. Wish they'd picked someone other than Alan Alda to play Plimpton. Plimpton was a scrawny guy, but not as wimpy as Alda.
The best part of this movie was it giving the great Alex Karras his start in the business.

The Last Boy Scout has the greatest/most WTF pro-football scene ever.
