That's a fact. I love found footage and while I appreciate Blair Witch, it doesn't likely make my top 10 of favorite found footage films

It falls under a lot of genres, but definitely horror and phycological horror. Movies can fall under multiple genres and most do. Silence of the Lamb is goated.

Yea I had to go scream based on childhood. I didn't see The Thing until i was in my 20's. it's fantastic, but man i love Scream. i can rewatch that any time. Love it so much I didn't watch Scream 2 until last year because i didn't want it to taint the original.

There is a theoretical-esoteric argument for Jaws, but not Cabin in the Woods, which is a meta horror comedy.

I'm inclined to agree with this statement, however the film's horror elements affected a generation. I still get panic attacks swimming out past the breakers.

Jaws is structured like a slasher movie, which is a big reason why it was so impactful and successful. The slasher genre literally just ripped off Jaws and used different antagonists in the same manner, from the opening scene to the minimal/slow reveal, with the big set piece in the end.
I imagine if the action in Jaws was more at night, people wouldn't argue about it as much as a horror movie. I think the fact so much of the horror scenes are in the day psychologically affects people who are conditioned to expect these to be in the dark in a horror movie.
