Exactly.
It's kind of funny to me that Wes Craven essentially took what he learned from New Nightmare and perfected it for Scream. Scream was obviously significantly more successful (and deservedly so), but I feel like New Nightmare is a bit of a forgotten film from that era.

Scream did a good job of mixing in some comedy in with all of the killing and scariness.

I've never seen Cabin in the Woods so i can't speak to that but it's not a stretch to call Jaws a horror. Even if you go to IMDb, two of the genres it's listed under is monster horror and horror.

The fact that it’s labeled “monster horror” on IMDb tells you everything.
The first 15-20 min… yeah would be a horror movie. The remaining film is adventure thriller.
