It doesn't suck. It's just very mid. Like I said, it's a nostalgia bomb for Gen X and older Millennials.

It's not a bad movie. I just never found it scary. I liked The Entity better.

I don't think we'll ever get everyone to agree on "all time" rankings just due to the age differences.

Chainsaw is a great movie. It was little weird for me because I didn't see it until after I had seen a few Friday 13 and Halloween movies and it just didn't seem as scary.

I wonder how the board views movies like

The Hills Have Eyes
The Last Housee on the Left
Race With The Devil
The Town That Dreaded Sundown
Food of The Gods
House of 1000 Corpses
Devil's Rejects

Horror, Gore, something else?

I've avoided checking the survey or looking too hard at the votes that were done here.

I might make the next round and onward a TD vote only, no poll. I wish that site would have a thing where it only lets you vote once because even though I mentioned it in capital letters numerous times to ONLY VOTE ONCE, there were some signs that people voted numerous times. The Omen vs Cabin in the Woods being one. On the online poll Cabin in the Woods beat The Omen by quite a bit but when I added up the in person voted The Omen was actually beating Cabin in the Woods. I doubt it would be that drastic of a difference. And almost all the matches were runaways on the poll, like one or two people were voting a bunch. Said there were over 200 people that voted, that number is certainly high. Maybe I'm wrong but just a gut feeling.

Oh Im sure people are voting more than once. I only did the online voting in the first round and I only voted once. I would do away with the online voting and do TD only

If there's no way to limit people to 1 vote online then you should only do TD voting. With that said, voted online

r/horror's Top 100 Horror Films ranking has The Thing #1 and Scream #4.

I think The Thing is superior, but Scream winning this round likely speaks more to the average age of the voters here rather than the quality of the movies.

Like the Poltergeist support

This is why I have a section in my movie stuff for what I call "Millennial Horror" which is the era that Scream kicked off. Scream is its own thing, but that style and era led to like the Final Destination movies, I know What You Did Last Summer series, etc. The Faculty, Idle Hands, etc.

I figured but i have a few downvotes so I wanted to clarify that it was a joke before anyone starts accusing of shenanigans should Scream somehow pull it out

The thing that stood out and freaked me out about Poltergeist as kid who loved scary movies was the setting and the family. It reminded me of my family and the neighborhood I grew up in. I hadnt seen anything like that before in the horror genre.

If you saw it at 12 years old the clown scene scarred you for life. It also taught a whole generation to fear TV static when programming ended. A young me waking up to TV static cut that shite off with the quickness.

I think the Thing is one of the best movies of all-time. It's so focused on it's goal. Great storytelling, art, effects, cast, etc. etc. It's in my personal Top 10 as just a film.

I actually would have no issue if Scream beat it as a horror film. Not because Scream is or isn't the better movie, but because as a horror experience, and as a horror film, it has serious weight to that genre specifically. It wouldn't make my top 10 films of all-time, it isn't that kind of film. But you can't really argue against it being in this discussion.

And that has nothing to do with age. It would be hard to argue AGAINST Scream. But I'd say the same in reverse, the seeing here is our opinion, but between the two films, both deserve it.

I was even younger the first time I saw it and yes it did.

That's nice. Doesn't change that they are both objectively considered horror movies
