Frankly, we could have skipped all of this and just had a poll between The Exorcist and The Shining. And frankly, I can’t decide which of the two is better. But I know they’re without a doubt, hands down the two best horror films ever made. And it’s not even really close

If you ignore the Texas Chainsaw Massacre....and some others.

Respectfully, you would be wrong.

Texas Chainsaw is as widely regarded, if not more so nowadays, as Exorcist & Shining. Shudder listed it #1 in their top 100 horror movie list.

And Jaws was listed at #1 in Bravos top 100 scariest movie list

Both Shudder and Bravo ranked the scariest horror movies (or moments), not necessarily the best.

This tournament is about best. If we're ranking scariest, I think that changes things.

For example, I think the best horror movie of all time is either The Thing or Black Christmas, but I don't necessarily think they're the scariest.

Obviously The Shining can definitely be argued as one of the best of all time. But let me make my case for Texas Chainsaw. What makes it so freaking scary is that it is just people. No monsters, or devils, or evil spirits. Just regular people, meaning it is something that could actually happen to you. As scary as a monster is, you still know that monsters don’t really exist and so what you are watching is just a fiction. To me that was always what made TCM so scary.

Yep, it'd be my #1 if I were just straight ranking them. Just something extra creepy about a real possibility of stumbling up a backwoods murdering nut job family. Add to the fact it was just a really well made movie. People floating and heads spinning just doesn't do it for me.

Wish i could have voted for both Halloween and Alien and not had to vote for the The Shining or TCM.

Broken hearted over losing Scream, but we move onward.

COME ON PEOPLE GET IT TOGETHER, enough of this Shining crap!

Yep, sometimes I think about tweaking the seeding to give a favorite of mine an easier path, seeing as 4 of my top 5 will probably be out after this round, but my dad said I'm a man of integrity. Or maybe not my dad, but someone said that to me at some point. Might have dreamed it actually.
