Obviously The Shining can definitely be argued as one of the best of all time. But let me make my case for Texas Chainsaw. What makes it so freaking scary is that it is just people. No monsters, or devils, or evil spirits. Just regular people, meaning it is something that could actually happen to you. As scary as a monster is, you still know that monsters don’t really exist and so what you are watching is just a fiction. To me that was always what made TCM so scary.

Texas Chainsaw is as widely regarded, if not more so nowadays, as Exorcist & Shining. Shudder listed it #1 in their top 100 horror movie list.

And Jaws was listed at #1 in Bravos top 100 scariest movie list
