Three of the four matchups were so easy for me:

1. The Exorcist
3. A Nightmare on Elm Street

1. Halloween
2. Alien

1. Jaws
2. The Thing

And then we get here and I'm struggling. I've always said the 2 scariest movies for me are The Exorcist and The Shining. I probably watched both a little too young as well The Shining has by far the better director, story, cinematography, and acting.

But The Texas Chainsaw Massacre is so gritty and so real. The name is the best and it feels like pure horror in the sense of what could actually happen.

So two movies where I think one is scarier and a better film vs one that is more real and more horror. Since the tourney is about Best Horror Movie so I think I have to go with:

1. The Shining
3. Texas Chainsaw Massacre

Any chance we can get the results for this round in the OP of the Final Four thread? I'd be curious to see how close these votes were.

Thanks!

You made the right choice I agree with pretty much everything you said about the two movies and picked TCM for the same reason.

1. Halloween

2. The Thing

All chalk but for Jaws. Loved it but The Thing is a better horror movie.

Final 2 will be Jaws and Exorcist.

No. It will be Exorcist vs Halloween. The Thing might make a run though so could be Exorcist vs The Thing.

ETA: Of course had the brackets been different the matchup could've/should've(?) been Exorcist vs Shining for the Final. No blame to iwy, just the way the pre-voting happened. And of course, TCM could make a Cinderella run

Good idea. I'll add the final score to the matches. If any matches are within a vote or two I normally ask if I can get a second count from someone for that particular match.

Exorcist defeating Nightmare on Elm Street is a travesty.

I think it lost by 30 votes after 200 votes. So pretty close. It was closer on TD voting and a wider margin on the poll. Psycho was winning on the poll and then all of a sudden was behind by a good bit on the poll. Think we got some lying bastards around here

Next tournament I might only do a poll for the first round. The old school way we've done for years is tried and true and takes the cheating element out. I might try and find an online site that only allows a person to vote once, that's bound to be available.

I'm not sure about that. The Thing is incredible, but is a different type of "scary" than Jaws. But Jaws legit scared an entire generation+ of people from being in ocean/open water. That means something.

I legit think of sharks every single time I am in the ocean, and it's purely because of Jaws. So while Jaws may not be as scary of a movie, the psychological effects it had are permanent with me, along with lots of people my age (born in '79).
