I don't think this movie makes as much as Black Panther, domestically.

I don't see how that's even close to being possible. I've not even seen BP yet, but planning on going this week just so that I can have seen it prior to IW. I realize I'm not the typical moviegoer, but I can't see how this won't blow BP away.

I didn’t think it would beat it domestically unless it blew people away

And even then it was going to be hard. But the shows here are now sold out until fricking Tuesday. That’s insane. They’ll add more shows for sure

BP recently passed Titanic to become the third highest grossing movie of all time and is the highest grossing comic movie of all time. Not saying it cant do it, but it wont be easy

Because BP was an event film, even bigger than this film, IMO. BP is almost at 700 mil. That's an incredible number. IW will come close but not 'blow it' away. It'll do far better numbers WW. I'm going with 1.7-1.8 billion.

This has been brewing for a decade now, literally every MCU film has been leading to this. It is most certainly an event film

I know it is, I'm saying it's not as big as BP, IMO of course. I can almost guarantee you it won't 'blow away' BP. I don't even think it beats it, and if it does it won't be by much.

IW is the very definition of an event film man

quote:

The latest box office tracking for "Infinity War" puts its opening weekend haul at $190 million to $235 million. That's short of the $248 million "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" earned, but analysts say several factors could produce a box office surprise.

quote:

Pre-release tracking and social media trends are exploding. Very few films have ever generated this kind of intense, widespread intrigue," said Shawn Robbins, chief analyst at BoxOffice.com, which currently forecasts "Infinity War" will earn open to $235 million to $255 million.

The movie has already raked in $50 million in pre-sales, according to data seen by the Wall Street Journal.

quote:

Once a movie starts tracking for a $150 million-plus opening, it becomes harder to forecast the exact figure, analysts said. The difficulty is compounded by the fact that no studio has ever done what Disney is about to do: Tie together dozens of characters developed over the course of 10 years and 18 movies.

Unless it's below 10%, I'm going to see it. And if it's below 10%, I'll probably still watch it but instead of in a theater it will be at home.

It is much bigger than BP and is going to blow it away.

In fact it is going to break about every record there is.

I get what he’s saying though. BP was built up like an event film unlike other solo superhero outings before it. The Avengers films are built up like this as well as Civil War but not even Ragnarok had the marketing BP did

I mean you had grown arse athletes buying out entire theaters and having buses go out to get kids out to go see it.

I just want it to be better than Age of Ultron.

I like Age of Ultron and it’s grown on me but it’s weak compared to Civil War, The Avengers, etc.

I want it to break the opening weekend box office haul. 250 million opening weekend would be great

70-80%

The size, scope and purpose of the films don't necessarily lend themselves to a "traditional" film approach. Critics will hammer it for that like Avengers and AoU.

There's potential that the sheer scope and overall goal of the film will elevate the score, but I think superhero fatigue has set in too much for that. - See Avengers. They were much less forgiving with AoU.

This is maybe one of the most important blockbuster releases of all time, and if its successful at that, while critics recognizing that this is 1) The Culmination of Multiple Films 2) The first of a two parter - then it could be rewarded. If they judge it as a single film, there's a good chance the score is low-ish.

Spot on. I’ll be really surprised if it’s in the 90

Then again, TLJ is in the 90’s and that’s a god damn joke of epic proportions

Fair point. But that's less of a "culmination" film. TLJ's problems are more "mythos" based than film based. As a film, it's finally constructed, has some decent acts, and the plot points that people have trouble with are usually those that don't support the mythos - exterior to the film.

Still a terrible film, but that's more wrapped up in "Star Wars," than it is in "made poorly."
