For starters, the film had a 90 percent market share—as in, 90 percent of all people who went to the movies went to see Endgame, the largest share a movie has ever had over the course of a weekend
anyone want to fess up as being in that 10%?
I think it would have taken work to actually see a movie this past weekend that wasn't Avengers. Most theaters had just about every screen in the place showing Endgame.

I saw two people buying tickets for Captain Marvel when I was walking into the theater Sunday. I casty'ed them

Where we saw it has 16 screens. Saturday afternoon, they were showing Endgame on 13 of them. And they were all sold out. Shazam, Captain Marvel and Breakthrough were on the other 3 screens.

Say what you want about Disney but having patience and playing the long game is paying off big.

The reception for IW is also what's helping this film break records. Had IW been a mediocre film, like AOU, then Endgame wouldn't be smashing records. Hiring the Russo's is an all time great move.

Also, ending the movie the way they did. If they had ended it with a quasi-resolution like Empire Strikes Back, people wouldn’t have been clamoring to see the next one as badly. People have been talking about Endgame since they walked out of the theaters for IW.
tSnap put butts in seats.

Slow Monday: Only 36 million domestically.
Posted on 4/30/19 at 3:11 pm to Bonkers119
I don’t know enough about Monday stats to know if that’s a good or bad number and you’re being sarcastic.

It is a much bigger hold than expected. Trending towards upending TFA now.

TFA played over the christmas holidays. It's monday is bigger but not by much. It's a solid hole with school still in.
Posted on 4/30/19 at 3:17 pm to ell_13
When it closed Monday, it was already a top 10 grosser all time WW.
Posted on 4/30/19 at 3:19 pm to TheeRealCarolina
It was also 35 all time domestically when it opened this morning. It’ll close in the top 25 tonight, passing Captain Marvel and Toy Story 3 among others.

That is not what I mean. Much bigger hold compared to expected for End Game.

If only Warner Bros had the same patience and not tied themselves to Snyder.

Imagine if Star Wars had a brilliant trilogy being formed. I can't even imagine what that could make.

Its really a shame TLJ shite the bed. Two huge blockbusters breaking each other's record in the same year would be insane.
Posted on 4/30/19 at 5:01 pm to Bonkers119
If TLJ has been worth a shite, Episode 9 wouldn’t be the end of the Skywalker saga.
And I’m not fully convinced that there won’t be an Episode X at some point, especially if Rey is indeed Luke’s daughter.

I’m not sure which of those is the bigger frick up...probably Snyder though.

Warner Brothers made many mistakes before they ever got to Snyder. Them losing out to Disney for Star Wars is why we are in the situation we currently are in with Star Wars. It’s also why we had that rough few years with the DCEU. 3 of their last 4 movies have been good/great. 2 of the 4 were big financial successes, the third is a moderate hit, and we all know what happened with the 4th.
I just hope Disney finally wises up and finds a real shepherd for the Star Wars franchise rather than doubling down on that ignorant twat they have in charge now.
