They should have yanked Snyder immediately after the cluster frick that was BvS instead of letting him immediately getting to work on JL. Instead you got a Frankenstein monster of Snyder shite and Whedon trying to do Avengers...for the 3rd time

I still have a 3 month ban bet going with Roaad that it doesn’t go past a billion. I feel better and better about it by the day.

I think you’re going to lose that bet, and it has little to do with the quality of Star Wars.

Really interested to see what kind of bump far from home gets with endgame being such a massive hit

The first one made $880 million WW. Sequels in the MCU generally average around 10-15% of a boost. I’m thinking it will be around 20-25% boost. So I’d say $1.1 billion. Is a safe floor for it. This summer is stacked though and oddly enough, the two biggest competitors for FFH are both from the House of Mouse: Toy Story 4 (pencil that one down for $1.5 billion) and The Lion King (ditto) which will bookend it.

Aladdin can be the biggest flop of all time in a few weeks and it won’t make the HoM give a hot fart.

TLJ made 1.33 billion. I feel pretty good that they’ll lose 400 million of that. I don’t think it’s that risky given what Solo did compared to Rogue One.

And films continue to get more play internationally, whether they are better—or even more popular in traditional markets. Throw in some price inflation on top of that.

I think you’ll be way off.

And for an N of 1, I had seen every single Star Wars film since Episode 1 in the theater, except TLJ. Yet, I intend to make that the only one, and will see the next one in the theater.

+1 The international markets keep growing, so hitting a million isn't that hard anymore. Especially for a film like Star Wars.

You’re underestimating that Star Wars is mostly an American thing. China hates it. The only reason they went to see TFA is they were curious what all the fuss was about back in the States. I think the British like it... it’s really just not as popular overseas as you would think. Marvel is popular as frick everywhere.

Fortunately I have reinforcements.

The trailer only had 10 million views in the first day. TFA and TLJ were much, much higher by this time. No one gives a frick but the blind fanboys anymore. Yes the casual fan will go, but they aren’t go there for a second showing. They will go for Endgame though.

TFA and TLJ both had a similar distribution of domestic v. international with about 45-46 percent coming domestically.

But regardless the first Avengers has 41% come from domestic gross but that was down to 33% for IW. That’s been a pretty consistent trend over time for film series.

OK. This is too personal for you. And I think you’ll be wrong because of that.

anyone want to fess up as being in that 10%?
I think it would have taken work to actually see a movie this past weekend that wasn't Avengers. Most theaters had just about every screen in the place showing Endgame.

It was almost me and two kids. Considered Shazam fur to run time.

I took two kids under the age of 5 to their first movie in the theater ever. A 3 hour movie was a risky choice, but we watched Infinity War before we left the house, so they were pretty excited.

They finished their drinks and candy before the title screen flashed, and they were asleep before Ant Man showed up. They still enjoyed the last hour though.

This is the complete opposite of the truth. Here is the deadline article about that:

‘Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker’ Teaser Clocked 111M Views In First 24 Hours; More Viral Than ‘Last Jedi’ & ‘Force Awakens’

Well I find that hard to believe and gives me a bit of a pause, but I did look at the video on the Star Wars YouTube channel and it had around 9 million hits 24 hours after the release... where the frick else did they watch it to make up for that?

The article goes into detail about that, and deadline is usually on top of things like that. For example, they’re usually spot-on about Box Office totals way before any estimates are released, and even before Gitesh Pandya from Box Office Guru who is usually on top of it as well.

Regardless my point is that I think you’re going to be lose your ban bet, and you’re too emotionally invested in the thing your betting on to just see that a billion is not some extremely high bar for a film like Star Wars, even with the backlash from the last film. And many who say they won’t watch it (maybe even you included) will see it, especially if it is well-received by the public

He wants to be a martyr about that, let him. I already explained to him once before that he was wrong about the whole trailer view thing, but he insists upon his ignorance so let him.

China loving it so much means 2.5 bill is legit. It’s on pace to make a billion there alone.
