Are we already in the "that thing that was universally loved is kinda lame now" stage with Breaking Bad? I guess this is what getting old is like.

Happens with every show

Because people who post what they really think while the show is still hot get blasted, and all you notice are the angry replies saying it's the best thing ever. After a couple years when fans have moved on to other shows, the comments saying "I just didn't like it that much" can be posted without getting buried right away, so they stand out more.

I’m pressing forward and have made a few episodes into the 3rd season. It’s entertaining and they are great about building suspense. However I hate all the characters and get kind of a shitty feeling watching the show. It’s weird

This is one of those series where I’ve not watched one episode and probably never will.

It’s pretty depressing stuff. It’s about drugs and cancer and crime. There are a lot of people not to like. I wouldn’t care to be around anyone that was in this show irl. Thus, I found it difficult to really care or pull for any of them. I watched it, was interested at times, could appreciate what the storytellers did sometimes, but was overall disaffected by it. It’s hard to pull for any character. They’re all pretty shitty people. Hank, I guess is the one I find most redeemable.

I always felt the show was overrated and, like a previous poster said, just didn’t bother discussing it because a) just didn’t care enough to, and b) there wasn’t really any point because the fans viewed it like the Sistine Chapel ceiling or something.

Don’t get me wrong, it’s a good show. I can objectively look at it as such. But it’s just not my kind of show that I really like and I don’t think it’s a masterpiece. And that’s fine. It’s art and that’s my view of it. It’s good, it’s interesting, it’s different, but I don’t think it’s amazing.

I’d say watch through season 3. If you’re not into it by the end of 3, or you just don’t care to watch anymore, stop. I don’t see you liking it anymore than you would after 3.

So are a lot of great shows. The Wire was full of shitty people and depressing situations. Almost everyone in the Sopranos was a horrible person and the way they crushed innocent people in their way of life was sad. I guess I like shitty people because a lot of my favorite shows are full of them.

Sopranos wasn’t a favorite of mine either.

I did like The Wire though.

The brilliant thing about the Sopranos was that the writers were self-aware that all the characters were pathetic, that the very idea of organized crime in the late 90s/early 00s was inherently pathetic. They were gross, they were dumb, they were thin-skinned and cowardly and short-tempered and neurotic.

The Sopranos doesn't work if everyone is a cold blooded killer. The Sopranos doesn't work if Tony always makes the smart decision. It also doesn't work quite the same in a post-Sopranos world, because its very existence reshaped the mafia stereotypes they deconstructed over the course of the show.

Add me to the ranks of those who think BB is just ok. Some of the performances were great but the story was uneven. I binge watched the series and ultimately didn't care what happened to any character.

But saying that you don't like BB here is like wearing a MAGA hat or not wearing a mask in public, you'll get yelled at or be given the stink eye.

I have watched one episode ever.

The finale.

And for not knowing what was going on, I really enjoyed that one episode. It was live and I wanted to watch something on AMC afterwards.

seasons 3 and 4 are peak TV

yeah i came into BB late so it was real easy to skim over seasons 1-2 by binging and effectively "start" when it was peaking

also, to the person who implied thinking better call saul is better means you're a hipster, BB got better as it went along (season 1 is all kinds of mediocre). why would you think that the continuation of that incline wouldn't also be better? BCS is much better from the start and loses luster only because it isn't this national phenomena that BB was. if you come to BB after its run and compare it to BCS, it's easy to see how people would think BCS is superior

this is kind of a cop out, backlash is real with any near universally liked or praise movie/show. Some of it is no doubt a sort of hipster attitude but its also hard to live up to hype sometimes.

Breaking Bad might be the only drama series I’ve completely rewatched.

BB and The Sopranos, in fact, are 2 I've chosen to not bother watching. Not doubting the praise both have been given, just not my thing.

I found a good bit of it predictable.

I finished it and enjoyed it, but wasn’t blown away like some. Probably a 7.5 for me overall

The subject matter. Glorifying drugs and crime. The whole 'he's making $ by cooking meth, but it's for a good reason ' excuse, for one. And the 'Mafic chic ' story line. Not something I wanted to delve into, is all.

Fine, it goes on, but so do a lot of other things.

I wouldn’t say either shows glorify crime in the long run. Sure, Walter starts out cooking meth for “a good reason” but it definitely doesn’t stay that way. These shows end up showing how destructive those lifestyles are IMO. But if it’s not you’re thing, it’s not you’re thing. I get that

Breaking Bad is a show about consequences if it’s a show about anything. Every bad decision on that show sends things spiraling out of control. I have a very Christian worldview and I thought the way it dealt with the consequences of sin was pretty spot on.

That's cool. I'm not crusading against it or anything. I just don't need great writing and strong character development to know that drugs are bad, mmmkay?

Some folks never saw ANY Star Wars. As one who grew up in the 70's and 80's, and lived through the initial craze, I can't fathom those of my generation who NEVER saw the original trilogy.

But hey... some people juggle geese.
