Just finished watching it, and man you were right about it being a tough watch. All-in-all I thought it was an excellent miniseries though. The acting and cinematography were both fantastic.

The detective’s conversation about emojis was pretty eye-opening. As someone in my 30’s, I now realize that I’m pretty much clueless about how young people communicate today.

Was pretty disappointed in the last episode. I fully expected some sort of twist.

Might have been more powerful and on the nose if they hadn't race swapped the characters.

Read the synopsis

Another "incel bad" thing

Will probably still watch, but just so tired of seeing the same preachy messaging

Hope it isn't what I am thinking

It's based on a true story

Well...sort of

It was inspired by the murder of Elianne Andam who was murderer by Hassan Sentamu.

When is being more "on the nose" ever more powerful?

And Adolescence is not an adaptation, it is not based on the events of one story, so it cannot race swap characters.

I guess some people don’t take getting schooled very kindly
It’s literally the thing some are trying to claim it isn’t. Real world events happened and yet just as is happening over there it’s happening here.

People ignore what they see right in front of their eyes.

It was a well-done show, but hard to watch if you've had adolescent children going through "cyber bullying" on social media. Middle School kids can be the worst sometimes. It's a real issue in society that's rarely fully discussed.

Good Article

Creators states it wasn't based on a single true story but is inspired by real-life events and societal issues.

The creators of Adolescence, Jack Thorne and Stephen Graham, have been incredibly vocal about what inspired the series’ creation.

oh come the frick ON. just fricking acknowledge that it was shameless political correctness but still a pretty good show. you think they switched to make it a white kid to make it "more powerful"? the only reason that it would make it more powerful is because no one is surprised that yet another black kid or immigrant committed a murder, but somehow i doubt that is what you're trying to imply.

Are you guys complete idiots? WTF are you even talking about? You, or whatever idiot you're listening to, have completely made-up a reason to criticize the show.

This is not an adaptation. It is not based on a single event. This did not change a kid involved in an event to a white kid, because the creators made it up. They have said in several interviews that they idea was inspired by the rise in violent knife crime in England, NOT

And for any fricking moron that doesn't know what "on the nose" implies in the context of criticizing a literary work (such as this show): blunt and obvious; lacking any subtlety.

I was implying that making art blunt and obvious usually makes it worse, while telling SEK that this isn't an adaptation or based on a specific event, making his post stupid on multiple levels.

Truthfully, having the accused be a 13 year old (middle schooler) white middle class kid with a solid family likely made it much more gut wrenching than the real life 18 year old (adult) muslim dindu....sorry but true.

This was so hard to watch, but amazing..acting was top notch. Had to use subtitles tho, some strange language that part of th UK.

Glad you brought that up. Who is committing those crimes by and large?

i guess, since we have come to expect violence from 18 year old black immigrant muslims and not from young white kids. not sure that's the message they were deliberately trying to convey with the race swap though.

Episode 3
I’d go as far as to say it’s one of the best episodes of any show I’ve ever seen. The dialogue and acting is flawless.

Great camera stuff and all that, but spending the whole episode just on the arrest, arrest procedures and all that was pretty boring. Got better as it went.

This. I’m not going to pretend that anybody isn’t capable of anything but most school shooters in the US match a profile. Most stabbings in the UK for a certain profile. Most of the violence that happens in Central Europe (running a car through a Christmas parade) fits a profile. Most Hate crimes in the US fit a profile.

That’s like saying it would be “more powerful” that Mr NOLA HS, captain of the football team, and headed to Harvard, would commit a school shooting.

It’s a bullshite concept, cowering in the face of truth.

This was actually my favorite part. The style really immerses you in the chaos and confusion of the moment, to experience it from the parents' POV.
I also loved the contrast between the worst moments of a family's life, and a bunch of employees carrying on about their day like nothing is out of the ordinary.
