I wanted it to be over at the halfway point. It was very pretentious and a massive disappointment.

Yes.

Kept checking my phone to see how much left I had of the 2 hour run time.

The moon stuff was really cool but that was about it

Pretty sure TLJ just showed up for an afternoon to film his scenes . Easy paycheck for him

I want spoilers. What is this ending that for some reason needs explaining!

Is this an accurate representation of the "moon pirates"?

Generally any movie that's heavily marketed (above what it should be) ahead of the opening tends to suck

That sucks.

Especially for a 2 hr movie. When the standard is 3 hr movies where you don’t want to run to the restroom 2 hrs should be easy.

I noticed on RT that critics loved it but half the fans hated it. So it's one of "those."

If there is ever a movie that embodies tediousness it’s this movie. It was a damn grind to get through. It’s like no one enjoyed filming it but they didn’t hate it either. It’s the vanilla ice cream of movies.

saw today...walked out wishing I'd have waited for the video. Ending was strange.

TLJ, get ready folks, plays an old crusty guy. Yeah, a real stretch. I swear since he killed it in Coal Miner's Daughter, he's played the same character for 40 years.

It’s textbook Oscar bait. Go see Rambo Last Blood instead

So I guess we’re lowering the bar quite a bit on what qualifies as textbook Oscar bait?

Moonlight, La La Land, Green Book, and Ad Astra. Yep, I definitely see the similarities...

I did, too. It could have been tighter but I tend to like spacing in films, especially when it’s visually interesting.

It’s a psychological and philosophical movie, and I enjoyed seeing Roy’s internal evolution vis-a-vis his dad.

I didn’t know what to expect for the climax, but I was imagining something metaphysical involving his dad. What happened was more less flashy but more powerful.

My main beef is that Liv Tyler plays the same boring, doe-eyed woman every time.

"textbook" should imply that you've seen or at least have great knowledge of the movie, but your statement indicates that this is not the case. You could of course see both movies and let go of whatever culture war narrative you've concocted for these two movies that aren't really competing for the same audience.

As for boring, I don't really see it. I can definitely understand not thinking it's good, but the movie moves. The plot kicks into great less than 5 minutes in, and it never stays in one location for long. It purposefully slows for a 10 minute chunk 80 minutes in, but the context of the plot demands it.

A journey to edge of the solar system in just under 2 hours? That's a pretty quick narrative.

To shed some positive light on the movie, while it was certainly not what I was expecting going in (thinking it’d be more of a supernatural, or metaphysical, as another poster put it, suspense), I still enjoyed it for what it was. I think it’s a classic mismatch in the way it was marketed versus what it is skewing expectations.

I enjoyed it being a return to more of the subtle nuances telling the story rather than blockbuster effects. On the surface it may have seemed slow or boring to many, but the story keeps moving forward (and outward) and every component contributes to McBride’s (Pitt) evolution and the story as a whole. I feel it had a nice balance of beautiful sound, visuals, action, and acting to tell the intended story. If you go in to the movie knowing and accepting this, I think you’ll be more inclined to find it gratifying.

I don't have a ton of in depth criticism, but that was one of the more boring movies I've seen in a while. It wasn't particularly bad, just not quite what I expected. It's like I was on the edge of my seat the whole time and nothing happened. I give it a 6.5/10

Definitely a big ole Meh. The things I did enjoy were the space travel, it seemed somewhat realistic. The movie just had no substance, at the end I said to my girlfriend(who I had to wake up). “This MF flew all the way to Neptune for that?” It would have been a decent watch on my couch, but not worth going to the movies. I’ve just been repeatedly let down since Gravity. Interstellar, The Martian, now this...smh
