When I saw this was going to be a September release I was worried about it.

Supported.
Was expecting something close to Interstellar. What a fricking ridiculous expectation I set for myself.
Do not waste your time.

Ad Astra want a meandering flab fest that hid its lack of profundity and interesting ideas behind a LOUD soundtrack. It also doesn't take 30 minutes to start.

Ad Astra reminds me of Contact and Interstellar. High brow sci fi, that is pretty boring but if you don't like it people will think you're dumb so you have to say you liked it.

I kinda liked Contact. Interstellar was horrible. I wonder if I would like Ad Astra.

Has Stallone blackballed himself by making the anti liberal last blood?

I actually liked Interstellar they both had similar twists and Matthew McConaughey.

The Martian was pretty good, but it wasn’t on the level of Gravity for me. Interstellar was garbage though

I noticed on RT that critics loved it but half the fans hated it. So it's one of "those."

It would make sense that the 2016 presidential election, one whose shocking outcome was partially rooted in institutional sexism and a certain “boys will be boys” mentality, would bring about a wave of movies outwardly confronting the pressing social issue of the day.

After all, fair or not, the conventional Hollywood studio picture, be they strong-jawed white dude action fantasies, gritty crime dramas about men behaving badly or romantic comedies which (intentionally or not) lionized stalker-ish behavior and a refusal to take “no” for an answer as a sign of romantic strength,

We can argue that pop culture has a moral/social duty to make girls feel empowered. I have long argued that it has a greater obligation not to normalize and (at least somewhat) glamorize the very aggressive behavior and cultural mindset that makes men feel that they are superior to women and can do whatever they want to/with the women they encounter. A women or girl can have all the self-confidence in the world, but it won’t matter if she ends up hurt or killed for rejecting a man in a bar, for saying no to or getting upset over street harassment, for turning down a prom invitation, or for just ending a relationship.

That guy was going to spout that nonsense no matter what the movie was actually about.
Never once did I think about that shite while watching the movie .

I thought it was pretty good.
I really like Gray's movies. Great visuals and music. Pitt's narration was a really good idea. Pitt and TLJ did great jobs. Glad I saw it on the big screen.

Saw it friday. This was the first time in a long while that I fell asleep in the movie. Granted I was tired and it was a 10:30 showing and we were in the reclining seats, but I fell asleep after an hour or so.
I woke up to my wife tapping me saying "well that was disappointing." I told her not to spoil it for me

Just finished it up. Wanted to watch it because I love anything about space, space travel, the planets, etc.
I was able to suspend disbelief for about 90% of it, and was drawn in to the question of what was going on. Granted the answer was a bit odd, and there wasn't any real twist/learning/aha. But some of the stuff was just over the top dumb or didn't make sense.
Trying not to spoiler it too much, but SPOILERS!!!!!!
- The guys on the moon. I feel like that was some political statement that humans will frick things up or exploit wherever they are (which is probably true, but it didn't make sense in the plot...felt forced)
- I don't think the heliosphere screws up anything we'd be listening for
- Much of the stuff that made sounds in the film wouldn't make sounds in reality, unless we were listening from the perspective of inside the suit/ship
- How did he spend the better part of 4-6 months in space but his beard and hair never grew?
- How was his dad walking in the ship when he floated up to talk to him (toward the end)? It's like his dad had gravity and Brad Pitt did not
- The way he got through the rings (at the end) is the epitome of absurdity. Any suspension of disbelief to that point was gone instantly there. Aside from the fact that the rings are nothing like that...ie not that dense...that material is traveling at many times faster than a speeding bullet and it would be lights out the instant the first impact happened. Not to mention it would affect the trajectory he was on
I know this is just scratching the surface, but damn, that last one...

I really enjoyed Brad Pitt’s acting in this movie. You could really tell that he’s a professional of nearly 40 years how he became the character. Some of the stuff that the character does, any other actor would’ve probably tried to overplay it, but because he knew the character was calm under pressure and never showed any emotion, he played it like that even when crazy stuff was happening to the character. I really enjoyed nuances in film like that
Other than that, it was a pretty boring film
