Hard to top this year. 1995 gave us critically acclaimed classics, cult favorites and guilty pleasures such as:

Shawshank Redemption
Pulp Fiction
The Lion King
The Usual Suspects
Billy Madison
Friday
Major Payne
Heat
Tommy Boy
Money Train
Casino
Jumanji
Clueless
Bad Boys
Braveheart
Legends of the Fall
Dumb and Dumber
Get Shorty
Congo
Se7en
GoldenEye
Crimson Tide
Babe
Mortal Combat
Toy Story
Apollo 13
Bridges of Madison County

All of this and more came out in just one year. It's hard to find another year with more fire power. Can you top 1995?

What an insanely rewatchable group of movies

Also: I ride or die for Congo. It has everything you could want

Talking gorillas
Psycho murdering gorillas
Hot air balloon ride
Plane shot down by guided missiles
Heat seeking machine guns
Hippos ravaging boats in a river
Diamond treasure hunt
Diamond powered super laser
Volcano erupting
Corrupt African governments ( STOP EATING MY SESAME CAKE !!)

It’s basically Point break. But with gorillas

Sad that almost none of those movies would be made today. Or at least in the same way. You could take the exact same scripts, but the budgets would be much lower, they couldn’t get the same casts or directors, and they’d wind up going straight to RedBox or Netflix.

70s sucked for film. It was the dark ages except for a few notable exceptions.

Aren't those at the top 1994? 94 is the best. 96 i believe is also good.

Oh man, this is a terrible take. Not only were the 70s not “the dark ages” for film, the decade is widely regarded as right up there with (or above) the 90s for best decade of American cinema. The amount of influential, genre-defining, and groundbreaking films from the 70s is ridiculous.

It’s a pretty objectively terrible movie. But I’ve always loved it.

I’m glad you’re here because you’re in dire need of an education on film.

Pretty great time to be a JR/SR in high school from a movie standpoint.

All of the 90s was pretty great for films. There was almost always something to go see at the theater.
