Reporting with @WindhorstESPN
: Cavaliers and John Beilein have discussed possibility of him stepping down as coach during the NBA All-Star Break. No decision’s been reached. After signing 5-year deal to leave Michigan, Beilein’s struggled w/ transition to NBA.

Sources: Beilein left for the All-Star break weighing his future as coach -- including the possibility that he's coached his final game, league sources tell ESPN. He has yet to make convey a decision, but there's been conversation w/ management about the option of a prompt exit.

man, this would be such a disappointing development. I love Beilein and he is one of the most respected coaches out there (in college game at least)

He left the college game in part because he was disgusted with the recruiting shadiness and players leaving early.

Wonder if he will go back or just retire with his stacks of cash.

Well that was quick.

I’d say I’m surprised but it’s the Cavs, so...

Did he not know he was going to coach all the guys that left early and profited from the recruiting shadiness?

No clue why any long tenured and respected college coach would go to the NBA in less than a perfect situation. Coaches get tossed way too quickly. 20+ year career squashed in 50~ games.

The Cavs hiring a 67 year old coach for a rebuild job made zero sense

You realize your time is dwindling and you want the challenge.

You want to double your salary.

Neither of them was 67 when they moved to pros.

Neither of them got remotely close to what Bielen got.

Petrino got 25 mill for 7 years. With a ten mill buyout.

I don't blame him for going to the NBA and the challenge and money. He had taken Michigan as far as he could.

If you think him leaving Michigan was dumb then voluntarily leaving the Cavs is even dumber.

Some coaches just aren't suited to college/NBA and vice versa.
