NBC Sports noted something I find interesting.

In addition to Beilein bailing after half a season, Larry Drew nearly did the same after becoming interim coach to start last season.

Whatever failings Beilein had, the Cavs’ culture is apparently fricked from Gilbert down to the locker room.

Shouldn't he have asked other coaches how players in the NBA acted.
He has a young losing team, what did he think it would be like

This is such an odd story. Surprised he would bail after half a season. Petrino 2.0?

The reporters keep referencing the story about his son that was essentially swept under the rug. That may be a contributing factor, but here are :

quote:

Story filed to ESPN: After a brief and tumultuous tenure, John Beilein is leaving as Cleveland's coach. Associate HC JB Bickerstaff will be elevated to head coach. Beilein's expected to say goodbye to staff and players on Wednesday upon team's return from All-Star Break.

His son was supposed to be the head coach at Niagara but he quit for personal reasons and Greg Paulus became the head coach.

The last guy I can think of who quit for personal reasons was the guy Butler hired to replace Brad Stevens. He had previously quit another job as well, I believe for alcohol abuse. His assistant took over, did well and took the Ohio State job.

Reports have just come out that Andre Drummond has been telling everyone in Cleveland that there was no way he would opt in if Beilein has returned.

While not much of a surprise, it tells me again that Beilein should have held up Cleveland for a good deal to go away rather than walking away without any additional compensation.
