The big issue is the location in Pinellas is surrounded by water. Might as well have built it in the middle of an island.
Two good articles about it (old but still valid):
Tampa Bay Baseball and Demographics
The Importance of the 30 Minute Drive Time
Not to mention most companies in the area are based in Tampa/Hillsborough which helps with selling corporate tickets.

Meh. Pinellas punches above its weight with F500, though. The mega-sponsors are mostly in Pinellas but Hillsborough has the B2B and service firm advantage.

Honestly, I think the corporate bases aren't as big of a deal compared to the population within a 30 minute drive time. To me, that is by far the most important metric.
Hillsborough also has other factors going into the equation like 500k more people, higher median incomes, more room for growth, etc.
Any way you look at it, a location in Hillsborough is preferable to Pinellas.

Should move to Raleigh.
Durham Bulls are already the minor league team for the rays

Tampa should very well be capable of supporting an MLB franchise.

I think that is a lot more likely, and it would be in like 3-4 years once this stadium plan fails (if it does). I think it’s pretty clear MLB wants them to stay in Tampa

went to a game at The Trop this summer. It was my 31st MLB park. It’s also the shittiest, and it’s not close. Hell, the Oakland Coliseum at least had some passionate fans in the outfield, and you were outdoors and getting some sun
I’ve been to 30. Oakland was far worse than the Trop. Mt. Davis, the leaky pipes, the rust, the crumbling concrete, the moss, the smell. Just a grade A dump towards the end. The Trop was at least clean, with nice concessions.

They’ll eventually get a team. They have the land for a stadium next to new football stadium. Would be a sick setup. And there have been behind the scenes talks about this for a long time. Just not sure which team.
I think MLB expands to 32 and that the White Sox relocate. Portland, Salt Lake City, Nashville, Austin, and Carolina being the favorites for a team. Orlando is out because it is too close to Tampa. Montreal ain’t happening.

Second the Raleigh choice. Growing metro area and the Bulls are well supported

What was your favorite ballpark ?
PNC Park is my favorite. The way it’s built, you can sit in the upper deck and still feel very close to the action. The downtown views are amazing. They have some great history on display. Food and drink is great. The only thing missing is a championship team.

Where do you rank the Rangers ballpark built in 2020 ?
The area around the park is great. It’s just a bit…sterile. If watching Tampa is like being in a deadmall, seeing a Rangers game is like being in the Galleria. The design is cool, but there are areas you can walk within the park and feel like you are in an office building. Interesting to say the least. But it’s nice, and I’ll be going back.

This is a very substandard set of words.

Really? Nashville is booming right now. Money wont be a problem. I think the Rays or CWS will wind up there in the next few years. Chicago couldn't even make a deal with the Bears. What makes anyone think they'll do it with the CWS? Baseball will never ever work in Florida, because there is way more stuff to do.

Nashville is going to get an expansion team. I think that is a lock

That is a lot of glass for in a hurricane area. I know you can use impact and hurricane rated glass and that would be better than the saran wrap they used on the roof of the old Rays stadium.

Don’t be a dumbass. I pull for them because I used to live in the area. The stadium does suck, but they are building a new one. It should be in Tampa and not st Pete’s.
You used to live around here…St Pete‘S is what the goofy Midwest tourists who don’t know any better call it.
There are for sure some good baseball fans around here that are diehard Rays fans. The Trop is a dump, but I’m not convinced long term that Tampa will have significantly more fans at the games than St Pete. Pinellas and Hillsborough have a lot of transplants with loyalty to whatever team they grew up rooting for. Additionally there are just so many things in the area for families to go out and spend their money on that attending expensive Rays games isn’t going to be a regular thing.
