I went to a game at The Trop this summer. It was my 31st MLB park. It’s also the shittiest, and it’s not close.

Hell, the Oakland Coliseum at least had some passionate fans in the outfield, and you were outdoors and getting some sun. At the Trop, there’s almost no sign that the Rays play there. There’s a couple of statues out front that are about 3/4 the size of a person and look like they were ordered from TEMU. You can’t see shite from the concourses. It’s like seeing a game in a deadmall. The 2 AL Championship trophies are prominently displayed in what looks like a storage unit. There’s hallways that abruptly end, and a severe lack of ramps that has me wondering how it’s ADA compliant.

I used to question why fans wouldn’t flock to a park to see MLB action when tickets are readily available for cheap. Now I know why. If I lived in Tampa, I’d go watch Single A action at Steinbrenner Field (which I’m sure was an update for the Rays last year), Clearwater, or even Lakeland.

Where do you rank the Rangers ballpark built in 2020 ? What was your favorite ballpark ?

Of course there is. Moving to Orlando?

Yeah, I'm sure that imagined ballpark on I drive next to Sea World that is nowhere near materializing is going to save the franchise.

The state of Florida can give a rats arse about baseball. Nashville is chomping at the bit to get a team, and it would definitely work.

The city just committed a shite ton of money to the Titans' new stadium. They are going to want that mlb park fully privately funded. Good luck with that.

Then why are you mentioning UF if this thread is about the Rays?

Because I was talking about spending money on stadiums, in the state of Florida, that would be a waste.

The rays building a new stadium just like spending a billion and a half on a stadium renovation is a waste of funds

I don’t think the Rays are as unpopular as claimed. Tropicana is objectively a shite hole and difficult to get to. Rays fans discuss the annoyances of just trying to go to games on the BID discord all of the time.

They’ll eventually get a team. They have the land for a stadium next to new football stadium. Would be a sick setup. And there have been behind the scenes talks about this for a long time.

Just not sure which team.

Just look at weekday vs weekend attendance at the Trop. Tells you all you need to know. Also, Hillsborough is younger than Pinellas. You can win Hillsborough fans over. Pinellas is a bunch of Yankees and Sox fans waiting to die in Florida.

If they do it right, that is. Which the first renderings are promising.

The new ownership group wants to make it work. The biggest hurdle will be securing public funds. The Rays are putting up a lot and willing to eat overruns but there is still 1B shortfall they want to be publicly funded. The Bucs also want public funds to upgrade Raymond James and they will be the priority. Will be interesting to see how it unfolds.

Has Desantis spoken about it at all? He’s a huge baseball fan. I know he’s term limited and on his way out, but seems like a project he’d be all over.

He's publicly commented on the need to keep baseball in Tampa Bay. He grew up in Dunedin so he knows the area. He's tight with the new owner. He's definitely for keeping the team in Tampa and seems to be in on the new target site.

I’m a Red Sox fan so not exactly a Rays fan, but I agree they need to stay in Tampa. Nashville, Salt Lake, Portland are all worse locations imo.
