Not really. What they do is they recruit promising athletes from the surrounding area and make them repeat grades.

They will take an 8th grader and place him in 7th at JC. By the time the kid is a senior, he is the maximum age/maturity allowed to play high school sports.

Most flame out in college because they have already athletically matured.

Curtis hasn’t exactly had a bunch of kids with the ability to be good college QB’s or WR’s. Their best players typically play RB or are on defense.

They have produced many college linemen as well.

They are not going to change a 45-year offense for a handful of skill players, especially when they have 27 state titles running the veer.

Running the option shortens the game.

It is lethal IF execution is crisp.

Of course, it’s harder to mount a comeback.
It can lead to fumbles IF execution is poor.

Option football sort of went away when defensive edge players became total freaks of nature.

It still can work. Army hung with Oklahoma last year. All the way to OT.

Don’t think they really do this any more

I had a friend who transferred from curtis to rummel when I was in hs.

He told me sports is the entire focus at that school and that JT will do anything to win.

Small school, but when they moved up in class, they still routinely kicked arse.

It really is a football factory. And I don’t see the point of spending 8k a year for a below average education.

When you get the biggest best players you can run anything you wish and be successful.

He has a great system in place from junior high on up that is just as good as the recruiting aspect. He has it down to a science.

Still, it has been rougher sledding the last few years since teams have become better all around offensively and defensively.

There isb a reason it isn't ran in college and Pros anymore to any long term success ie MNC. Thinkaboitit.

Curtis is the ultimate "system"

1) Start teaching kids in middle school
2) Holdbacks when necessary
3) 90% or more of the male students play

The result is a system that the kids known perfect when they get to HS. It's run effective and efficent. Even though they are a 2A or whatever enrollment, their teams have the roster numbers equal to a 4A or a 5A program.

Because of this, I think the veer was only the 2nd biggest reason for their success. The first was their roster size, compared to their opponents. When your depth is 3X the teams you are playing against, you can dominate them.

It took them 4 years to win a state champ in Div 1, because they no longer had that depth advantage.

I don't see the system changing anytime soon. Even when JT retires, there's enough of his disciples (see what I did there) to keep it going.

And just like Spurrier at Florida, system coaches don't end to produce great players at the next level. For all of JT's championships, his players (with a few exceptions) are very lightly recruited at the Power 5 Level, and rarely, if ever, make it to the NFL.

Hence the problem with high school athletics.

Finally at that.

I think Rummel beats them this season myself. Rummel is going to be very very good and with the QB transfer from Jesuit they should be clicking on all cylinders.

That’s an insanely inaccurate take lol
