Dylan Crews is off to a good start

Bobby Witt Jr. should do it if he stays healthy.
Already 510 career hits at age 24. He's on pace to get 40 more hits this year. That would put him at 550 thru his age-24 season.
Another 175 hits per season, thru age 38, gets him there. So far he's been very durable and very consistent his first 3 years.
Honestly, he has a chance to get there by age 35-36. Again, health is the key for any player.
Edit: Bobby is actually 24....not 25.

Witt, Merrill, Crews are well on their way

No. Soto might have a chance if he stays healthy, but he would have to average about 190 hits a year for 11 years. He has 908 right now, and is average EXACTLY one hit per game (908).

Bobby Witt has the 246th most hits thru an age 24 season. (510)
Soto had 768 (49th)
Griffey had 972 by the same time. (8th most)
Witt is obviously very good but he has not been all that advanced for his age. Looking at the comps around him he is much more likely to fall into the 2400-2800 pace and that is if everything goes right

For the heck of it, where does Witt land on your list with 550 hits? Because that's what pace he's on for the end of this season.
And do you have a link to this list, please? I can only find the top 10.

Freeman would need to average 127 hits per season and play ‘til 40. Altuve needs to average about 130 until he’s 40. I think Tuve has the better shot based on career averages, but a bunch of those guys are being hindered by the 2020 season.
I think Freeman has the better chance I’d playing into his 40s. Couple that with the fact he has to average slightly fewer hits, and I think he has the better chance of the two.

Im on Baseball reference / Stathead. Its subscription so cant link
550 would bring him up around 200th on the list.
Hall of Famers / Notable players from 200-300 with 3k would be Willie Mays, Pete Rose, Carew and Paul Molitor. All played into their 40's and beyond. All had multiple batting titles or lead the league in H multiple times.
Then there is Sandberg, Gehrig, Olerud, Baines, Bonds, Mattingly and Mauer who could not really come close.

I think Freeman gets there. He doesn't play a particularly physically demanding position, and of course he can be DH'd later in his career, if needed. He's a pure hitter who should remain highly productive for at least another 4 or 5 seasons. After that, unless he decides to hang it up while he's still got something left in the tank, he should be able to hang on and be just productive enough to reach 3,000. He may not be the type who wants to play out the string, though. Some guys want to walk away on top of their game. That's not something I can predict.

Scratch Goldy and Nado off the list.

You like Vladdy’s chances?
Posted on 8/29/24 at 12:20 pm to Dire Wolf
Machado looks good when you look at the relative hits and ages as he's 31 but his bat is not aging well.

I think his pace is better than most, but if I had to bet i would say no.I compare his body to Miguel Cabrera, who broke down around 34 and chased 3k even though he was washed way before that.
Vlad is about 1 full, "old" season of hits behind his pace already (currently 151H behind)

Altuve does and I'll say Freeman does too. No to everyone else.

I had no idea Justin Turner was 39 years old.
