Why do people shout "get in the hole" or "dilly dilly" after a golfer hits the ball?

I never watch golf, but I just spent a couple minutes watching Tiger Woods highlights from yesterday. Every time he took a shot, people would shout stuff like this. For those of you who are into golf, how annoying is this for other fans who are there watching?

”I'm an idiot desperate for attention so I'm yelling really loudly as this professional golfer strikes his ball. Please laugh at my unoriginal, lame arse.”

Because they’re drunk douchebags who think they are funny and will get on TV.

I really wish they would start kicking those idiots out.

Because they hope he might hit a 610 yard hole in one?

Whatever happened to the John 3:16 guy that was in nearly every tee shot years ago? With the rainbow hair?

There is no room for fun or cheering in golf. End it immediately

Someone yelled "HE'S ON ROIDS!" as Koepka tapped in on 18 yesterday and I got a good chuckle out of that

But yes, they should kick these tools out. So annoying.

I was tailgating a panthers at a bar near the stadium once. It was right when "dilly dilly" came out. Some fat neckbeard ran up to the girl working the bud light beer cart, got bout 3 feet from her face and yelled "DILLY DILLY" with a huge grin on his face. She just blank stared him. He proceeds to yet again yell "DILLY DILLY" then started frantically laughing and running off. She then turned to me and looked at me with the same exact start. I still think about her every time I hear an idiot yell this.

I think you're confused. People love a good crowd roar.

Its people that scream "GET IN THE HOLE!" the exact nanosecond that a player makes contact with the ball. Most of the time its on a tee shot and they're not even attacking the hole. Its stupid. They do it so they can text their friends to ask if they heard them on TV.

And that particular gallery was as idiotic as I've ever
witnessed.

They were screaming like teenage girls every time Tiger
shot...no matter how bad the drive was.God,act like you've at least seen a major on TV.

If you were bored watching that tournament yesterday, you just don't like golf, shouldn't watch golf, and shouldn't participate in golf threads.

In no way, shape or form did I say that. I love the cheering, and don’t even mind “get in the hole” on putts...I just hate the tools that yell dumb phrases during people’s swing to get attention for themselves.

He used to be in the middle of the goalposts during ever FG attempt in the 80s.
