Why did the Chargers draft Joe Alt over Malik Nabers?

They have one of the worst receiving corps in the NFL after losing two of their top receivers (Keenan Allen and Mike Williams) along with their starting tight end (Gerald Everett). Plus they already had Slater at left tackle. It made little sense to draft a RT so high. I don't understand what the Chargers were doing.

It fits what Harbaugh would want to do. He is a guy that believes in building both lines and playing physical football, being able to control lines of scrimmage and running the football.

Harbaugh taking a right tackle over a wide receiver seems entirely on brand

You're asking the wrong questions man. The only question that matters is Who has it better than us?

Guess they thought they were getting a steal with Ladd McConkey.

Drafted two other wr in the 7th, but only one of them worked out. They wouldn’t be so bad if DJ Chark was healthy

Harbaugh's always steered towards dominating run game with great defense.

He's in year 1 of a rebuild and has the luxury of having a top 10 QB talent locked in long term.

You need to be able to win the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball to win a Super Bowl.

Build your line first, then go after offensive skill position players in the draft and try to make a run while you have those guys on rookie contracts. Does no good to try to draft a 1st round WR while you're in the middle of a rebuild because by the time you're ready to be a legit contender, if that 1st round WR pans out, he's going to be at the end of his rookie deal and commanding $30+ million a year on his 2nd contract (around 12% of your total cap currently). You can get great value by drafting well when it comes to RB's and WR's on rookie deals.

Protecting his QB for the future and building the line, which is something he goes for and the culture he wants. I get it

Yes no need to protect a dude making 52 million a year. What other awesome takes do you have?

Fans are always complaining about having a weak offensive line. Teams with a bad offensive line are very frustrating to watch.

Simultaneously, fans seem to be very averse to drafting lineman early in the draft. It doesn't make sense.

I don’t think that was their plan.

considering they traded one, cut one, and didn't sign the other, it kind of was their plan

I would’ve done the same. Protect that QB first and foremost. He’s your meal ticket for the next 10 years. Give him time and he will be able to throw it to damn near anybody. Draft a skilly here and there.

Build the trenches before indulging in skill positions. It was the right pick.
