They just got a really good TV deal, and the money goes up with every P5 team that joins the conference. They're arguably better than they were before because Texas isn't there to frick anything up anymore.
If Colorado goes back to how they were in the 90s, they can be that anchor that Texas and OU were
Particularly with Coach Prime who can drive ratings

This. Wanted to associate with LA, Seattle, Phoenix and Bay Area more than Stillwater and Ames.

Pac was in a good place in 2011 when Colorado joined. USC had owned the previous decade, Oregon was there.
Final 2011 AP Poll:
#4 Oregon
#5 USC
#6 Stanford
Oregon and Stanford were #2 and #5 respectively the previous year and USC couldn't be ranked.
Texas and OU were reportedly seeking membership, it seemed like the place to be. Go West young man as you've been told, California's full of whiskey, women and gold. Can't blame them with the Big12 on the brink of destruction.
Well that didn't turn out as they hoped.

Texas.
Texas wanted to be the big dog instead of sharing equitably. And Colorado wanted to be more academic at the time too. Colorado since the 90s has been schizophrenic and vacillates between trying to have a competitive athletic program and trying to kill off its athletic program.

Oh my god, i've explained this 20 fricking times on here .
Colorado has ALWAYS wanted to leave the Big8/Big12. They felt they were superior, and stuck in a conference with a bunch of hayseeds. They loathed the Conferences teams and geography of Conference.
They are a super progressive/liberal college and always wanted to be part of Pac12, and their counterparts in progressive ideology.
They have wanted to leave for a long time, but NO ONE ever wanted them, then when Pac12 realized they better start taking teams, Colorados prayer was finally answered.
It has nothing to do with Missouri/aTm/etc They have wanted to leave the hayseeds and the big8/12 for a long time, there was no one who wanted them, so they were stuck.

I wouldn’t say always. As the state grew and transformed from a high plains/western state into California Lite In the 90s and into the 00s, there was a shift at CU toward wanting alignment with PAC schools over Big 8/12 schools.

Nothing better than ou Colorado Nebraska games back in the day
Crazy that the Big 8's best 3 teams (OU,CU, Nebraksa) are all in different conference. Two are likely switching conferences next season, and all three will still be in different conferences.

Because their state started acting like a bunch of California bitches

And two of those three have been afterthoughts for years.

They didn’t like Texas. Same with everyone else leaving.

Yeah, I think a lot of people are forgetting just how fragile the Big XII's position was after A&M, Mizzou, Colorado, and Nebraska left.
Just about everyone was predicting that the league wouldn't be around much longer after the 2011 exodus of so many programs. Not to mention the in-fighting that was going on about the revenue sharing and every other program hating the way Texas operated.
It really is a miracle that the league was able to survive that time. Much less come out of it on top of the PAC.

This kind of crap needs to stop.
Nebraska voted against having the Big 12 title game in Texas and the Big 12 office in Texas. On every other issue, every Big 12 vote was unanimous. How revenue was shared, control of tier 3 rights, every single issue...Colorado voted the same as Texas who voted the same as A&M who voted the same as Mizzou and so on.
You have a lot of schools who suck at everything and who like to blame their failures on someone else. Don't be a Pelosi or a Hillary and blame Texas for the actions of others. Colorado, A&M and Mizzou, like all of the other losers, are accountable for their own actions.

Mizzou was the largest school in the Big 12 to vote for equal revenue sharing. We also voted against moving the conference headquarters and the title game to Texas.
It is Colorado's fault the headquarters moved, they were the swing vote. Missouri, Kansas, Kansas State, Nebraska, and Iowa State voted to keep that all in Kansas City. Colorado sided with the Oklahoma and Texas schools. Idiots.

Boulder politics has aligned/followed with west coast liberals for a while now. They must be so sad to leave those fan bases that they're similar to.

Big 12 will become the old Big 8 and the SEC will absorb FSU and Clemson, thus splitting the west into a defacto old SWC/SEC hybrid.
Let those two play each other in annual non-conf games and you'd actually have one hell of an old geographical rivalry.
Basically eveyone but Nebraska would involved, and you could probably get them to do it for a recruiting boost, too.
Arkansas, Nebraska, Texas, Missouri, Oklahoma, OSU, Colorado, Texas A&M, Ole Miss, Miss State, LSU, Texas Tech, TCU, etc.
Those are very fun games with a lot of regional impact. Much better regional draw than LSU vs Kentucky or Texas A&M vs South Carolina.

Funny part is that LSU-Kentucky was one of LSU’s annual games for years, even before the early 90s expansion where they were made permanent opponents.

Texas was gone. To the Pac. Halfway out the door. Unlike a few years ago, the PAC were only looking for two teams. There was no six team Oklahoma and Texas pot. Colorado was chosen and gone, Texas and it’s revenue share we’re on the docket.
It took the Big12 negotiating the LHN to bring Texas back (in the only way they came back). But Colorado was already out the door to the PAC. Nebraska was headed north, and Aggie was so fricking pissed they asked to join the SEC. Mizzou was promised enough later, and the rest of the conference held firm.
They grabbed TCU because of the state of Texas and their recent football runs in the MWC. They grabbed WVU because it was the last P5/6 team without a home that wanted one. That was desperation to stay afloat.
It took USC imploding and one of the worst TV deals imaginable.

Colorado was a better fit in the PAC. They were always an outcast in the Big 8 and Big12. The influx of californians just made it worse.
