Louisiana can support minor league baseball. Build a stadium in a downtown Louisiana city and it will thrive.
Downtown St. George would be perfect for that.

I remember going to the superdome on Easter Sunday one time and watched the Cubs play the Twins. Back when mark grace was still on the team. Pretty sure sosa hit a walk off

Playing in a 10 year old baseball game in the dome before the Winn Dixie Showdown is one of my great childhood memories. 28 years later I still remember hitting an inside the park homerun and Skip Bertman, Todd Walker, and most of the LSU team being in our dug out and celebrating with us.

Why aren’t there MLB games in New Orleans during the summer? Astros? Braves?

Because New Orleans is an irrelevant city in the scope of MLB. Not one single team wants to play in that shite hole. They’d rather play in Montreal first.

MLB used to have spring training games in the Dome. Saw A's/Mets and Yankees/Red Sox.
During the Yankees/Sox game their right fielder dropped a routine fly ball and the entire section behind him where I was sitting with my parents was heckling like crazy. One fat dude yelled "Enjoy the bus rides in AA ball!". The fielder was Paul Oneil, who went on to win the AL batting title that year and now has his number retired.

I wish minor league baseball would give it a go in Baton Rouge with a new downtown stadium
This town has enough problems keeping its citizens alive and you want to spend taxpayer money on a minor league baseball stadium? No thanks to that and watching a game in the 110 degree heat index in July and August.

College baseball is our minor league baseball… and a more fun product.
It’s hard to get into minor league ball if it’s not the team affiliation you want to see. And they’re not even trying to win. It’s all about get so and so at bats, or innings pitched, even if he sucks by the order of the mlb team

Lol, no. I went to one of those games in the Dome in the late 80s when I was a kid. I just wondered why it stopped. Those who explained how the Dome was reconfigured and couldn’t host baseball anymore helped me understand. It was just a general question because I remembered it from the past.
Thanks for the condescension.

With the dome renovations, I doubt if a major league baseball field could fit in there anymore. The sightlines would be much better for football had the not tried to make it an all purpose facility at the beginning. I used to go to those MLB games but I really miss the old Winn Dixie Showdowns of the Skip Bertmann era.

downtown
—people in the BR area don’t support downtown enough for a stadium to be built there.

Why would the Astros or Braves leave home games on the table to perform charity for New Orleans?
Posted on 1/5/23 at 8:37 am to AlaTiger
I know, I know, I know. Because there isn’t a major league team in the fkn city.
Posted on 1/5/23 at 9:20 am to AlaTiger
Because New Orleans doesn’t have an MLB team. Anything else?

lol...frick no. Why would the Braves sacrifice home game revenue for tickets, concessions, and foot traffic in The Battery in order to play games in that shite hole?

Both the Astros and Braves have kick-arse stadiums and rabid fanbases along with the two most recent World Series titles.
You can't name two better MLB franchises right now, and neither have any need for doing what OP suggested.
