Why all the royalty mascots in Kansas City?

I've always wondered why Kansas City has a bunch of royal sounding names for some of their mascots - Royals, Chiefs, Kings, Monarchs - and wondered if there was a connection. I did a little digging and here's what I found:
The Royals got their name when the city was asked to vote on the mascot for their new expansion team in the 60s. The winner picked Royals based on the American Royal livestock show that takes place every year in Kansas City. The original logo was going to feature a big cow, but they went with a crown/royalty theme instead of livestock.
The Chiefs were named after the mayor of Kansas City at the time, Harold Bartle. He started the tribe of Mic-O-Say, a boy scout organization based on Native American customs. This earned him the nickname Chief.
The mayor was instrumental in bringing the Dallas Texans to Kansas City, and they named the team after him.
The Cincinnati Royals basketball team (formerly Rochester Royals) changed their name to the Kansas City Kings when they moved in 1972 to avoid confusion with the baseball Royals. They kept the name when they moved to Sacramento.
The Monarchs were named after their sponsor the Monarch Printing Company, and that was actually based on the butterfly, not royalty.
I had always thought there must be some kind of royal connection in Kansas City for all these mascots to have the same theme, but it turns out it was just a coincidence.

Prior to the Royals, KC had the Athletics

Kansas is the center of the heartland

And ironically enough, they end up with a nice theme for their sports industry.
There's no theme if your mascots are a cow, a butterfly, a king, and whatever the hell they would have called the Chiefs if it weren't for Chief.

When Kansas City had an NHL team it was called the Scouts. Maybe if they had called it the Dukes or the Earls or something they wouldn't have moved to Colorado after two seasons.

I'm a fan of KC - really nice city, good bbq, caught my first foul ball at Kauffman. Always a good destination for a getaway.

It is definitely interesting how it was all kind of coincidence. Hopefully they stick with the theme when the PC mob finally has their way with the Chiefs

Wait until the progressives hear this story

Look forward to watching the Kansas City Football Team in the near future

I think it would be pretty neat if the Royals found a way to incorporate the cow into their branding. Or at least an occasional homage.

Feel like St Louis should have more of a claim to crowns since they were literally named after a great king.

Concerning this Royals...after the A's left Ewing Kauffman brought MLB back to KC. He was a big business owner and his wife was Canadian who loved the Queen of England. She would often wear royal blue clothes so I think she played a part in the baseball team's color being blue.

And then rebranded as the Devils when they moved to Jersey.

Before the Arch was constructed, the Apotheosis of St. Louis (which is located across the Art Museum) in Forest Park was the official symbol of the city. The old AL Browns used it.

Based upon a famous statue of an indian scout on horseback in Penn Valley Park in Kansas City:
The hockey jerseys actually had the statue as the logo:

Then again with those jersey colors and design it might not have mattered what their name was. If McDonalds had alternate uniforms they would look something like that.
