Small schools, Buras 1990, 15-0.

Everyone is forgetting about the 2000 Oak Forest Academy squad. That team had Dane, Chase, Cole, TJ, Joey, and maybe even Dut Dut.

I don’t know about the best but plaquemine high school had a team in maybe 1979 or early 1980’s - I can’t remember the exact year. But they had a team that I don’t think gave up more than a few touchdowns all season.
I think they lost in the quarter finals.

They may have been small, but they were slow

1990 Ruston is the team I always hear about when discussing this subject.

Something tells me they wouldn’t do too good against 90s Ruston or 97 WM lol

There was a St Aug team in the late 70s that was crazy good in 77 or 78. No one was beating them that year. Played for the state championship against Jesuit and handed Jesuit its arse the score was not indicative of the defensive domination by StAug that night.
I think it was the largest crowd ever to see a high school game in Louisiana. About 40 -45,000 people were at the game

1981 John Ehret was pretty damn good as well. Tyrone Mitchell, Tyrone Vaughn, Norman Jefferson. They were probably the first high school team in the state to win primarily by passing. No one could cover Tyrone Vaughn. He caught something like 60 td passes over his high school career....unheard of at the time....had 7 additional called back by penalty that either ultimately result in a no score or someone else scored

Brock Berlin (spell?) was unbelievable.
Really quite unbelievable that none of those Evangel QB's never amounted to anything on the collegiate level.

It was 78 and Chalmette almost knocked off that St Aug team

More appropriate for another topic, but I think that 1980 John Ehret is the best LA HS football team not to win the State title.

Tyrone Mitchell
Trivia: Where did Mitchell go to play college football?

whichita state....
1980 Ehret benefited from a painfully weak district schedule and pre district. 14 games only 4 were close and they lost 2 of them.
One could easily argue that barbe team was the best not to win state(had more d1 signees)
1972 St Aug, 2015 Rummel, 1988 St Aug, 1982 Neville, 2001 Wm, 1992 neville, new iberia 79, Slidell 86

Inclined to agree with you on this one. That's the team with Toby Caston that lost to Ruston with Michael Brooks and that incredible defense, correct?

Raymond Malcom was ridiculously talented .
Roymon, had to look it up and still probably spelled it wrong. I’ve been told by coaches and folks who work HS news over the years, he is ONE of the top RBs this state has ever produced. Lots of arguments to say otherwise as La has produced so many good ones. I believe he blew his knee out twice at Auburn and was done. There was zero weaknesses on that team, from size to speed, basically top notch at all levels
Same could be said for 98 W. Monroe though also
Saying all that, not sure how well prepared a 90 Ruston defense would be against a 99 Evangel passing attack but I do believe Ruston would have been able to run it down Es throat and I say that knowing how good Es D was
I think a 90 Ruston vs 98 WM would have been a shite show and 2 losers. Would have been a dogfight for sure

That and 73 Captain Shreve vs 75 St Augustine are two games that I would have payed shameful money to watch.
