Not program over time, just 1 particular team and year.

You have the 99 Evangel team and iirc 98 W. Monroe. I'd go with 90 Ruston team as they I believe had close to a dozen players go to collegiate level in football. I obviously don't know much about the south LA teams from back then. 2012 John Curtis was a good program. I believe 90 Ruston team went back and forth between #1 and 2 in country that year.

They went back and forth iirc with Permian Panthers in 1990. The 1988 Panthers was team Friday Night Lights was bases on.

I would love to see a computer simulation of any team ever mentioned in HS to Daingerfield, TX

Daingerfield, TX went all year without its defense being scored on and only gave up 8 points, all by the offense (Pick 6 and safety).

To me, that is the top of any state but as I said I would love to see what the other state's greatest teams would simulate out to. Especially any of those Evangel or West Monroe teams. The South Panola teams of MS were incredible as well.

1990 Ruston

quote:

Ruston blitzkrieged through the 4A playoffs that season, outscoring opponents 200-27. The Bearcats opened postseason play by blasting Barbe 42-0, before defeating Natchitoches-Central 41-0, Baker 38-14, Thibodaux 27-3, and then blowing past a Catholic team that included standouts of its own such as Warrick Dunn 52-10 for the championship.

1997 Shaw. I know they didn’t go undefeated but between talent on the roster and the competition they played they stand out as the best team I’ve ever seen. Just a few of the players

QB Derrick Joseph Tulane top 100 player
RB Shyrone Carey LSU top 50 player
RB Brandon Carey Marshall
WR Terrell Harris Tulane
WR Ronald Bellamy Michigan top 100 player
C Tori Taulli Tulane
LB Cameron Vaughn LSU
DB Greg Brooks Michigan

Also Joesph was a 10.5 100m guy.

All those teams you listed were excellent. A couple more would be '75 St Augustine and '73 Captain Shreve which at least on paper may have been the best.

Btw, I might would put '98 WM slightly ahead of '90 Ruston as WM went through the playoffs like a hot knife through butter, whereas Ruston actually trailed Baker at halftime in their Championship run. That and though anecdotal, a couple people who actually followed that Ruston team confided to me that they thought WM slightly better.

Weren’t they a small classification?

I’d love to see ‘99 Evangel vs that team. I have a hunch that small classes in Texas then did a lot of running the ball… they might not have seen a good passing offense

If they were like the size of our 1A, then I’d like to see 2007 South Plaquemines against them

How good was the team with Joe McKnight that beat Hoover on Two a Days?

On the topic of Hank Tierney-coached teams, 2021 Ponchatoula was loaded. This article goes into a lot of detail about the talent from that senior class, and that's not even including 5-star safety Jacoby Mathews. Won an all-timer against Acadiana in the semis and lost to an undefeated Zachary team you can argue shouldn't have made it that far in the first place.

If a few calls go the other way in the Zachary-West Monroe game, Ponchatoula wins the state title rather easily. I think if the state title game itself gets replayed 100 times, Ponchatoula wins more than 50.

I think the 2014 team rolls to the title had Christian Campbell not gotten hurt against Acadiana, but they weren't essentially an All-State team like the 2021 team was.

Evangel 98 or 99. Whichever year that had Cole Pittman, Stevie Lee, and Phillip Geiger on defense. That team was nasty.

The 98 WM team with Bradie James, Jason Ledoux, and Brian West was filthy. Every snap those guys were in the backfield pressuring the QBs.

Carencro 96 or 97 (cant remember which) Kevin Faulk Sr year ran up and down the field like he was in Tecmo Bowl.

I went to Acadiana but he was fun to watch. I even went to the State Championship to watch. (Had friends at Carencro)

faulk was already at LSU in 95. He dominated at Carencro a few years prior.

The carencro 96 team had Damien James wrecking everyone.

Small school / Kentwood 1998 . Beat 3A runners up Independence & Amite who both only lost to Evangel in the 3A playoffs.

Kentwood 1A playoffs
59-0 Country Day
55-14 B- Venice
42-0 St Edmunds
42-7 Grambling
48-0 St John

One off game Kentwood could have competed with anyone.

Got to see them play I believe Southern Lab that year. It got ugly quick. The team speed was unbelievable to see as a young teen.
