Inclined to agree with you on this one. That's the team with Toby Caston that lost to Ruston with Michael Brooks and that incredible defense, correct?

Neville went 12-2 lost to ruston twice. Toby Caston, JR AMbroSe(ole miss who shut T Vaughn down in semis.... twice), oliver Lawrence(LSU) and a host of smaller school guys.

But as typical, Chalmette could not close the deal.

Was that the team with Vince Manalla kicking? I always thought his barefoot style was sort of cool .

2012 John Curtis

Back when the 4A and 5A coaches blocked them from playing up. When they eliminated my son’s team (2A) in 2012, he said the guy he was blocking looked like he was 22 years old. They had really well developed recruiting and redshirting programs. When they beat my younger son’s team in the Dome in 2013, they dressed out almost exactly double the number of players as we did.

1990 Ruston High School. Close second is 1998 West Monroe. Watched both of those teams in person. High flying dogs full of talent destroying opponents.

No he wasn’t. He graduated class of 2002 which would make him an eighth grader.

The South Plaquemines Hurricanes, formed after Katrina by combining Buras, Boothville and Port Sulphur high schools, fielded some nasty squads under coach Crutchfield.

Idk about best but 06 John Curtis with Joe McKnight was unreal. McKnight might have played every position.

Ruston was good most of the 1980s. I can remember Ruston being number one in I believe 1987 and played in Minden. My parents had to check me out of school to be able to get our regular seats. I’ve never seen so many people at a high school game at the stadium that size.

Think they won every other year in 80s, or maybe they did lose a championship one of them. Been competitive since then but nothing to write home about. I graduated RHS mid 90s, should have put out my bias in my OP

IIRC, that Covington team only lost once in two years...to the 75 St. Aug team in the state final. Covington chose to play in Hammond to accommodate the crowd. Against that juggernaut, the Lions chose poorly.

ETA - Advancing on first downs seems like some an odd thing now.
