The carolina schools...NC, SC, NC State. These are two states that will continue to grow in population.

I'm sure I'll get some laughs out of this one, but UCF. Huge school, great recruiting area, plenty of money and with the fading of UF, I could see them making some noise in the next 10 years. Maybe not a sleeping giant, but a new program with a high ceiling.

I heard a Beano Cook interview shortly before his death where he identified Missouri and Illinois and sleeping giants. Both have good to great places from which to recruit and plenty of available financial resourses to try to marshall.

I'd be curious what his opinion would be with Mizzou in the SEC instead of the XII and with what Drink is currently doing.

That's my pick, can't believe it has been 25 years since their title game in the Superdome

The cult in College Station is THE definition of sleeping giant.

Hampton Roads/Southern VA has a ton of football talent and there aren’t many schools closer at all. DMV there’s a few but none that really have their shite together at all.

Georgia Tech is a true sleeping giant in baseball, probably one of the biggest out there. They are a good coaching hire away. If Vandy and Wake (and Duke to a lesser extent) can do it they absolutely can.

I’m skeptical what their current ceiling is in football but they should be better than they have been

Most of them are bad, and I don’t think recruits are choosing a school because it’s 30 minutes closer to home

All good recruiting areas have competition, the competition in that area is comparatively pretty weak

I always thought Pitt should be a powerhouse with the players they’ve had over the years.
Lots of in state talent. They have the 4th most hall of famers of any school with 10. Guys like Marino, Dorsett, Fitzgerald. And only one championship since the 1930s while playing in a weak conference.

frick them. They turned they're back on Southern high schoolers and became infested with Asians who have no school pride, no social skills, don't attend any games and refuse to donate a penny back. They will never return to relevance again and will rot with whatever is left of the ACC.

yeah they went down the same path as Rice but in the process squandered a much larger resource base with a deeper history of success

Houston is interesting but they just dont have the active alumni base needed for an elite program. It is just a large commuter school in a large city and so many of their alumni send their kids to UT/TAMU/TTU /LSU and support those programs instead

Maryland Penn State - there’s a lot of untapped ceiling under the current regime IMO We’re going on almost 15 years since Florida has been a serious player South Carolina The ACC has a lot of uncertainty but UNC is a classic one

Penn Stater here. Maryland has a massive Penn State problem to be a sleeping giant. Agree - PSU is in a weird spot with Franklin. He has done a good job, but, will a new guy do any better?

Yeah Maryland is dependent on getting lucky with a coach (and retaining him) but B1G membership and their recruiting base is a tough combo to beat in an exercise like this. They’ll always be mentioned when people do this.

I think Penn St is capable of doing what Michigan did under Harbaugh, and perhaps they can still get there under Franklin. But it would be a risky move from the admin to change something when they’ve had plenty of success recently

Sleeping giant? Hell, being consistently bowl-eligible would be a revolution for them.
