And Texas is a state that has plenty to go around and it's not that far away either. Plus they play in Jerry World once a year against TAMU. Petrino, as big a douche as he was, showed the right coach can do well there and they have the donors to play the NIL game. They have great ingredients, they just need a chef that can actually cook so to speak

This isn’t as relevant now. I also see Arkansas as a poor man’s Clemson as far as access to HS talent and resources. The right coach could make them very good

A few others. Some are sleeping giants and some have never woken

Maryland
Penn State - there’s a lot of untapped ceiling under the current regime IMO
We’re going on almost 15 years since Florida has been a serious player
South Carolina

The ACC has a lot of uncertainty but UNC is a classic one

Someone will emerge in the Big 12 but I don’t know who. The Arizona schools have had potential for forever that hasn’t been realized

Arizona State - huge party school in a large city with easy access to Southern California recruiting.

Virginia Tech - passionate fan base with great recruiting territory

South Carolina - see VT explanation

One of the two big North Carolina schools is going to get really good and stay good eventually. That seems like an inevitability due to recruiting territory and local high school production, demographics, economics, corporate support, fanbase passion, etc. Those two have kind of fumblefricked their way to top 30-ish type programs forever but one of them really should be elite.

Probably not a sleeping giant per se, but I still think Washington has a hell of a lot of upside even with DeBoer leaving. The underlying fundamentals of that program are really good, and it's a huge and wealthy alumni base that loves football.

That’s true about Texas. It’s also very close to Arkansas and they can recruit especially if the DFW area.

Arkansas.

They are good in every other sport. Tons of money at that school. Great area of the country.

Agreed, they have the resources and great access to Texas, northern Louisiana, Memphis for talent, they honestly should be giving the Alabamas, Ohio States, Georgias, LSUs of the world a run for their money in recruiting and for the national title. If they get a viable, good head coach, it'll be like Milroe becoming the next Michael Penix under DeBoer, it'll be scary.

I’m stunned nobody has said Ole Miss… as long as Lane is there and the way he uses the portal, they have a chance to be real good every year.

Texas A&M is THE sleeping giant imo. I can’t think of another program lacking in success, with a great school, stadium, and recruiting ground.

My only contention is, if it didn't happen when UA was doing well, why would it now when it's gone to shite?

Stanford

Going to disagree here. You need the perfect storm at Stanford, which we saw in the early 2010s but Stanford admissions will always be the biggest roadblock. Going into last year, Troy Taylor didn't even have 85 scholarship players because it was difficult for him to get players admitted through the portal. That won't change.

Boston College

Heavy disagree - Little access to talent, little fan support, little money, little winning tradition.

This is coming from someone whose second favorite team is BC. My dad and sister both ran there in college. Would love to see them do well but BC is closer to the bottom of my P4 list when talking about 'sleeping giants'.

With absolutely no recruiting base and too much competition will never be relevant

What? What do you consider “consistency in excellence”? LSU program was pretty damn good the last 20 years.
