LSU in 1983 and 1998. LSU had been to the Orange Bowl after the ‘82 season, brought most of their top players back and routed Washington, which was top 10, early in the season. LSU went 4-7 and 0-6 in the SEC, only winless SEC season in school history. In ‘98, LSU was preseason No. 6 and went 4-7.

Texas falling off a cliff in 2010 after a great decade and being in the championship game the year before.

Shaggybevo was so glorious to read that year.

That team somehow finished 9-4.

I remember seeing all the reaction videos of Big 10 fanbases watching that game in their own stadiums, most of those Big 10 teams making fun of Michigan ended up losing to that Michigan team

1996 Oklahoma

They lost to San Diego State, TCU, Tulsa and Kansas to open the season.

They went 3-8 on the season and 2 of those 3 wins came by a combined 7 points.

They had one ranked team on their schedule (Texas) and they shockingly beat them in OT.

Penn State went 3-9 and 4-7 in 2003 and 2004. Only wins were against Temple, Akron, UCF, Kent State, Indiana x2 and Michigan State.

The 6-4 loss to Iowa was one of the most depressing games I've seen.

Then in 2005 they went 12-1 and finished #3.

Record wasn't as bad as the team actually played. They finished 8-5 but were extremely painful to watch.

2003 Auburn is another one that comes to mind. They had super high expectations going into the season and then got bitch slapped at home by USC to open their season. Ended up finishing 7-6.

Turns out the high expectations were a year too early for them.

I like how you complain about them getting B slapped when USC did that to everybody for three years basically

I didn't complain about it. Auburn was favored and this was Leinart's first college start.

The Michigan team that lost to App State. By far.

Finished 9-4 with a win over Urban Meyer’s and Tim Tebow’s Florida Gators in the Citrus Bowl.

2005 Tennessee was picked to win the SEC I believe, instead: first losing season in forever and first loss to Vandy in forever. They did beat LSU in that bizarre Monday night game. But as a program they were never really the same after that

I was at the 98 LSU Notre Dame game. There were snow flurries in TS. Bob Davie was trying so hard not to run up the score it was embarassing. On one play LSU unsurprisingly neglected to defend one whole side of the field and the Notre Dame punter took off and ran for the first down. He came off the field all happy and Davie chewed him out.

I was coming in to say this. They were playing for a Big 10 title in their last game, we've had multiple Michigan teams since then post way worse seasons.

I will say that bowl game took me by surprise. Michigan started going 5 wide and Henne and Hart ate that defense up. I don't understand where all that came from because they didn't really do all that shite earlier in the season but it was a fun game to watch.

Starting in 2001:

11-2
11-2
10-3
11-1
13-0 (national championship)
10-3
10-3
12-1
13-1 (made national championship)

5-7

Think Texas’ 2010 season is hard to beat.
