I personally don't. My reasoning is the 8th round looked an awful lot like Tyson shut him off with an uppercut. Douglas got up on a marginally slow count and was saved by the bell. 30 more seconds in that round and Tyson likely goes sandman on him.

Tyson was supposedly out partying hard the night before the fight.

He spent the entire time in Tokyo in his hotel watching "Faces of Death" he couldn't go into public without a mob of Japanese fans surrounding him.

He was rusted, he had fought a total of one round in the previous year. Was going through a divorce.

Incredible. I was on OSU campus and didn’t pay for a drink all night. Pure chaos but in a good way.

Buster came in to the title bout overweight, out of shape. Holyfield knocked him out in the 3rd round.

Yup. I heard someone on the radio telling to story about the weigh in which was open to public. After Buster stripped down to his skivvies and his weight was announced, there was a mad rush from the weigh in to the Sportsbook to bet on Holyfield before the odds changed

Many will disagree, but I believe if Tyson had sticked with Rooney instead of don king’s lackeys, he would’ve retired undefeated. He would’ve beaten Douglas, Holyfield, Lewis, Bowe if he remained in shape and motivated. He was not the same fighter after getting with don king, and lost most of his skill after the 4 year layoff due to prison

Maybe. Probably not.

He would have been great significantly longer and would not have lost to Douglas.

But he was just really under-sized to stay champion as he aged. The punching power wasn't the problem.

The problem is his elite defense was a function of both skill and the unbelievable speed. Speed deteriorates with age. His being under-sized meant he needed a significant edge when up against men who were both skilled and significantly taller.

age wouldn't have been a factor. since Tyson was so young he could've faced all of those guys before the age of 30.

being undersized is also irrelevant as that didn't stop him from unifying all titles in the first place.

I also have a fuzzy memory that Chris Jackson and Gerald Glass both went the frick off in an LSU/Ole Miss game the same night but I might be mistaken on it being the same night.

Tigers scored 119 in Knoxville that day

I guess that’s why it was my fuzzy memory

I went to hear a band play that night. Came in, turned on HBO heard them talking about it, and couldn't believe it. It was crazy to hear about.

ETA: It was a big enough deal for me to remember all of that. Not where were you when Kennedy got shot, but it was a big deal with sports fans.

The claim was that he would have finished his career undefeated. And (barring enhancement) people do start to slow down by the time they are late 20s.

Tyson's fights usually lasted 30 seconds and we wanted to see the fury.
I watched the Michael Spinks fight sitting in a folding chair on the floor of Reunion Arena, the Mavs old home. Paid $35 to watch it there. One of the guys I came with was at the concession stand getting beer for the 91 seconds. Spinks looked like he didn't want to be there.

I remember thinking..."this doesn't seem right" like it was a given. A natural state of things that Tyson is champ

We had a family get together to watch it live. It was my youngest grandsons 50th birthday. Will never forget it.

Yes
LA sports fans (perpetual victims) do

Having watched the fight, I cannot imagine anyone actually would believe this

Finding out Tyson lost to Buster Douglas is almost one of those things that will be remembered for a lifetime

I did not see it live. We were at the lake, and I saw the headline before my dad had even picked up the paper. Blew my mind. Thought Tyson was unbeatable. Douglas did not.

Rewatch it, Buster was also waiting on the canvas ready to go when the count got near 10. It's not like he was out and trying to recover.

I think you should rewatch it. Count starts with official ring side…as with all fights. Then in ring refs continue count once other fighter is sent to other corner. I’m the Tyson Douglas fight in ring ref was behind actual count

Douglas exposed him. Tyson never could handle a strong offensive jab a la Prime Holmes.

It's a preview of what a prime Foreman would do to him.
