Cliff notes: Florida defensive tackle Sharrif Floyd suspended 2 games last year and ordered to pay back $3,000 that a booster gave him.

The booster then adopted him so that he could pay Floyd without breaking any NCAA rules.

In The Blind Side they adopted a HS kid, no one had seen play football before. Here we have a booster "adopting" a 20 y/old current Florida player. not exactly the same thing.

I think he meant that this is what the NCAA investigation of Oher was fearing regarding the future of the sport.

How would you even go about adopting a 20 yr old? What is the age limit you can adopt someone?

While 18 would seem to be reasonable. The age is probably 26.

No limit I know of. I've seen 40-50 years old people "adopted" to transfer money/benefits

That was the movie version, real life he was a hell of football player before meeting his adopted parents.

Yup, adult adoption.

Used mainly for setting up succession/estate inheritance priorities and such.

This part is fricking bullshite. Michael Oher was a well accomplished football player in Memphis well before the Tuohys adopted him.

I still contend that if that kid was a tuba player they wouldn't have adopted him.

He was a 5-star lineman before the Tuohys adopted him.

Sharrif Floyd has had a really tough life & has been dead broke for all of it. He & his family are so poor, he was sending the tiny bit of money he got leftover from his Pell Grant (or something like that) back home to his Grandmother in Philadelphia.

While this story is sketchy & the adoption I'm sure has its motives......I'm glad he's being taken care of

Per Rivals he wasn't a 5* when he signed. I'm not sure when he was formally adopted, but if the story in the book is true, when they first found and started helping him he was not an elite level FB player. In any event, he was still a kid and that's not comprable to a booster "adopting a 20 y/old college Jr.

Not really.

Adopting a high school 5* stud, then steering him to play for your alma mater is worse than this situation IMO. What is this booster gonna do? Influence him to transfer to Ohio State for a year?

This is a confusing situation because first of all the guy that's adopting him has no ties to Florida and secondly the guy is already pretty rich so I don't see the angle of him using Floyd as his meal ticket.

Michael Oher always complained about how bad at football they made him look in the Blind Side. Sensationalism is the word.
